Still not really feeling it I made up a set of Lee lookalikes in white with red diamonds. they go with the emblem I made up last year and the floor mats emblem5.JPG tlites.jpeg tlites2.jpeg tlites3.jpeg tlites4.jpeg vettegrabbar1.JPG

Well, you didn't do any damage to the housings changing them so no harm no foul.
Still before you do any real driving with it get a trusted buddy to drive it around the block both in daytime and at night so you can follow it at varied distances to see how the person sees the lights and if they show up right especially in the daylight. I've followed too damned many cars with custom tail lights that you couldn't tell if the brake lights or turn lights even worked as quite often you couldn't see them in daylight and they didn't show up well at night.

    Very cool.

I get a real Fawcett littlebook vibe of this.

I specially like the ray gun and the diamond ones...

I think the diamond ones are the winner.

absolutely will. I had to finally change the Lee lenses (the old ones were semi opaque plastic) on my Impala after being told repeatedly that my brake lts were invisible on a sunny day..

Fins were better, but with the floor mats, diamonds win.
Your giving me ‘Ideas’...and I like it!

  8. I'd run those ring versions in a New York minute.... I'm surprised that Lee never made anything like those.

But the diamonds look great too.

My favorite hot rod from 1960 is the Chuck Kricorian "Emperor". It had 1959 Pontiac taillights with white Lucite fins glued on. That one looks great. Corvette? Not so much.

But the stock lenses work so well with the slanted housings, like as if they were er ..... designed that way. Nothing wrong with the new lenses, just not in those housings. Opinions are......

The diamonds are so in synch with the era....& match the floormats.

  16. I like the thin rings the best but dig the diamonds as well. Well done Mark

  17. I like the diamond ones...custom, subtle, unique, and a bit classy all in one.

    Diamonds here too.

I think what makes it harder to find the right style is the angled back panel.

If the lights set outside of the rear panel instead of being frenched in I think you could easily get away with the previous styles you've tried.

Yup, when I undeleted this thread I removed the part where I asked for opinions. I realized that was a huge mistake with this group.... (non custom people)

Might as well put Caddy bullet lights on it.

  25. The diamonds get my vote .

All 3 are awesome lit up .

if you could make the rings snd the rockets flush with the housing I think you would be on to something really sweet .

the fact they sit proud of the bezel is I think throwing the look off , and why the diamond seems the nicest . Even though the rockets or rings look way more neat-o they are just a bit too much of a “ look at me look at me “ as opposed to a subtle custom touch .

I never liked the Lee lens with the white plastic on them. I think your problem is the originals nailed the correct look for the car so it's hard to improve on.

  28. these look killer and just fit the car. I think they might work better than original lee as it looks like the red has some prism feature to it to help spread the light a little and make them a little easier to see. That was always an issue with older Lee's.

Thanks man. Yeah I added some drop ceiling light diffuser material behind the red and it spreads the light out pretty well.
