Back in 2021 @IronTrap purchased a huge collection of 34 Fords, and I snagged the 34 Cabriolet, my first hot rod. The Cabby was in the loft of one of the barns on the property in pieces. The body was a hot rod at some point and channeled heavily. The b pillars are missing the lower 10" and have these heavy plates that were the mounts that sat on the floor. Thankfully Matt has a frame table that will allows us to fixture the frame level and start pieces together the body. The first step was fixing rust on the rear of the floor and the panel below the trunk. After the rear panel could be bolted in we can bolt up the quarters and work on grafting in the lower portion of the pillars. Thankfully we had an extra set of b pillars. With the Pillars set we started to work on hanging the doors and putting the cowl onto the cowl feet. Getting the whole mess to work together was a pain in the ass but we got it all together. We got the cowl welded in we started on the repairs that were needed. Rockers, Lower Quarter panels, and wheel wheels. We also replaced the firewall and fixed the side of the cowl that randomly cut out The last major hurdle were the doors. Both were smashed i the bottoms, and the passenger side was missing the lower 2". The drivers door ended up being full of lead and needed a bunch of metal work. Big kudos to Matt for all his help!! The last major project on the frame table was to cut the rear of the frame and tuck it up to clean up the rear of the car. Stay tuned for more updates!! Looking good man! Looking forward to watching the latest video when I get a minute. You’ll be rolling before ya know it
Mike, it has been fun to watch your progress on YouTube. Great work with salvaging this car from loose sheetmetal parts into a traditional hotrod. This would be cool with a Nailhead, but I understand that you are putting a Flathead in it. Of course that’s more traditional and makes the car more period correct. Keep up the good work. Can’t wait seeing this car on the road. It was Irontrap and you guys who made me to start a new project after years of not building a hotrod. Thank you for being an inspiration! You can find my project diary here on HAMB.
Great stuff. I've been watching @IronTrap on YouTube for a few years and always look forward to seeing new videos. I'll be watching the 'off the frame table' episode later today. Glen.
I just went and back tracked the build on IG. Pretty cool. Seems there a few 34 Customs running around. There was a black convertible that won awards at the Suede palace at the GNRS. Royal Shifter is building one too.
Been following progress on Youtube. You've come a long way and its looking good. Was great to see in on all 4's. Going to be a cool ride.
Another follower here. Kudos, Mike. It's great to see you making sparks in a different way these days.
Mike, I’ve been following your progress since the beginning. Glad to see your making headway on it, it will be awesome once it’s done! Keep up the good work and the videos!
Great progress been following on utube and got the 40 steering column and box all rebuilt thanks that going in the 28
Glad to see you post this here Mike. I have been following Matt on you tube for years, and of course following your build. It's about time you have your own hot rod. And your in the best place to do it , with Matt and Steve. Carry on buddy.
Cool to see a build thread on this one. Matt builds some neat cars but this is one of my favorites from the channel. Gonna make for a helluva great first rod!
