Like the titles says….let’s see what you got. Innovative, interesting, I need some inspiration. Thanks guys and gals.
I read it as interiors made in your home shop/garage. I done mine, the whole build was done myself to try and save that $.oo
My '46 in progress. Fabric is curtains from my den. Since this pic, all the door glass has been replaced...and a lot of other stuff
I will probably have someone do the seat cushions and head liner. But the rest I will do, not to save money, I really enjoy the heck out of doing it myself.
Since the post title says "hotrod interiors" so guess it means upholstery. After getting $7k-$10k estimates to do my '39 Chev coupe in black diamond pattern, I decided to try my hand at doing it myself. Bought a old 50's Singer commercial off Craigslist locally for $250, a pair of junkyard buckets for $30, and a bunch of black naugahyde, and thread off Amazon. Then took the covers off the seats, and ripped out the seams to use as patterns. Made cardboard patterns for doors, trunk divider, and all the side and kick panels. Transferred the patterns to 1/4" board, and began stitching up the diamonds, and making my covers for all. Took me about three days to do the whole interior, including a black headliner which I purchased pre made for $165, instead of trying to make it myself. Total cost for everything was under $1000, and I only messed up the first seat I stitched up. I got off my marks on the pattern, and when I began hog ringing it on I realized the cover was too loose. Removed it and ripped out the side seams and re-stitched it about 1" narrower, and it fit well the 2nd try. Beyond the seats, the rest of the flat panels were super easy to build and cover.
Electrician for most of my life. But hotrodder on a tight budget for over 50 years! Had to learn to make do and stretch dollars, or not enjoy this hobby. my '39 was a lot of firsts for me. First time painting a car. First time interior work. First time lettering. The mechanical was easy, as I've done that part many times over almost 60 years.
May be a tip or two,you can use from my old HAMB tech;; https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/tech-sew-at-home-upholsrety-hot-rod.604077/
