I was looking for some kind of toolbox to put in the trunk of my modelA. I wanted something old looking and thought I found the perfect thing , a vintage fishing tackle box. Unfortunatly it was a bit too tall to fit because of my channel job and frame Z. I had an old violin case that fit and would be fine but I wanted something maybe military to go with the car. I tried an ammo can and they are too tall also. My old neighbor , before he moved away left me some " old junk" because he knows I like that stuff . In the pile was a green US military jerry can.
I cleaned it out really good , purged it with CO2 and sectioned about 2 inches from the center. Some vinyl edging and a couple latches and I've got a suitable tool box.

Maybe a green canvas strap and buckle. I'll go visit the princess and see what she has.

Maybe a couple of strips of Velcro to hold it in place.

Pretty ingenious toolbox. Tools/spare parts storage are always a problem in a hot rod. I turned the spare tire carrier on my '36 into a locking toolbox.;) zj.jpg 0.95.jpg

  10. I like the jerry can idea because it checks all the right boxes....... and the backstory is HAMBfriendly cool, too.
I picked up a couple of vintage doctor bags that I intend to re-furbish into "toolbags" sooner or later to sell in my vintage accessory store. I've got so many "I'll get around to it someday" kinds of projects, if any HAMBster made me an 'offer I can't refuse' I could see myself passing the torch.

2 styles of mounts, either one layed in its side would work. Google military jerry can mount.
Don't know if you could buy the material for that price, then have to fab it.

James Bond, Maxwell Smart, Napoleon Solo, and Inspector Gadget, never had a cool modified JERRY can tool box, as cool as that one that you have fabricated!
    Very impressive!

I'd add some straps, clamps, or foam blocks to secure the tools inside of that jerry can to keep the noise to a minimum while crossing train tracks, driving bumpy roads, or going around corners.

Maybe some cheap carpet on the inside to keep the rattles down. Cool idea.

I finished it off with some ribbed rubber mat to line the trunk and found a seat belt that will hold it down. It' not army 20230204_114112.jpg 20230204_114040.jpg looking but I can replace it when I find something more suitable.

Maybe a used flannel shirt glued to the inner workings to keep the rattles at bay. Joe

Very kool! Your idea standing up in a pickup bed would really be the shit. Looks sort of odd laying on its side.

I did the tool roll thing. This is a Filson bag that uses a heavy oiled canvas with leather straps.
