I'm looking for a passenger side exhaust manifold for my 49 Mercury engine and can't seem to find a used one anywhere or even a new one, where did they all go? Do they repop these anywhere? Mine is broken on the exhaust pipe flange and it's got full exhaust so I'd rather not put headers on it right now. Any help would be appreciated

Turlock Swap Meet is this weekend, if you aren't going post a picture, maybe someone who is can source one for you.

  3. Did you try the Swap Meet section on The Ford Barn?

Somehow I always forget about the ford barn 20230125_120346.jpg 20230125_120327.jpg 20230125_120313.jpg 20230125_120500.jpg cuz I don't go on there often. Here's a picture for reference as best as I could get right now and one of the driver side just because.

For what it's worth I'm pretty sure those are late 30's early 40's Ford manifolds and have got to be pretty common. I may even have a set, I'll have to check.

Shoot they could be late 30s early 40s as in the stock 41 manifolds and they just put the 49 merc engine in it. I just figured they were 49 Mercury as that's what the engine is. I'll have to search the web for images and see if I can match something up thanks

Okay so I did some image Googling searching and the driver side is for sure a 37 to 41 Ford / Mercury but I can't confirm the other side.

If I remember right, the '49 Ford and Mercury used a crossover pipe that went down under the front of the engine and hooked to bottom right front side of the right side manifold. The single exhaust pipe connected just behind the cross over at an angle pretty much as pictured. That right side is probably an option or something off a different car. Maybe an aftermarket hot rod offering. I'm sure there is something out there but to tell the truth, I've never seen a factory dual setup on a '49 - '53 Mercury.

I would try to find a somewhere that could weld up and repair that manifold. Worth asking around as you have nothing to lose.

  10. I have a set off a 40 Merc engine that I don’t plan to use if they are the same.

Thanks Guthrie the one with the partial pipe is correct for the driver side but it's still in Enigma what I have on the passenger side that has the crack and breakage I guess I'll try and put it on the lift today and get it removed so I can get some better pictures and see if it'll be repairable

  12. Yea, repairing it is likely your best bet. I have a guy that I work with that lives for fixing stuff like that for folks. Not sure how many cast manifolds off old tractors, cars, etc. he has fixed for others we work with. He has done those for me as well as aluminum stuff and even a power pack head that had been ported too much. He welded and blended the ports back together for me. There are definitely folks that are good at welding the old cast parts.

Those are the ones! Yes those should be free at the most haha. Well I'll pull this broken one off and see what can be done and I'm going to the moon eyes show swap at the Irwindale dragstrip this weekend so maybe somebody will have some for close to free for sale

  15. Wow! Yea, free was the price that came to mind as far as worth on these old rusty manifolds.

Got the manifolds off.the pass side is broken pretty bad .gonna take em with me to the show swap and see if I can find another. The driver side broke both studs but I can fix that no problem, was just relieved that all the bolts came out of the block easy enough. 20230127_142416.jpg 20230127_142410.jpg 20230127_142355.jpg 20230127_142440.jpg 20230127_142432.jpg 20230127_142422.jpg
