Hope you read this. 700hp. So now what have you got to say. It's documented the factory y-block block is capable of 7000rpm and 700hp N/A. Show me a factory ford 302 Windsor block that can achieve that.

I'm trying to read it but the font is too small and when I enlarge it it's blurry. Could you post a clearer copy of the article? I'd like to read it, looks like a lot of good work in it.

I'm afraid I can't. I only have a ph. Not a computer. Try google hmm garage build y-block engine build. Or Jon Kaase racing engines y block revisited. You should be able to find it. It is very interesting.

I think this will be easier to read. I took screenshots of each page on my iPhone then edited the photos to crop them.

I see you have a couple characters watching over your every move. I’ve got a couple watching me too.

^^^^ That's cool. Are you going to completely restore it or just make it run and maybe work?

I'm glad someone else said it haha. I'm familiar with Kaase and his work, and it is VERY impressive, but there's basically no Y block left aside from the block, which even that isn't stock. They even got rid of the stacked intake runners, and used a 1" steel girdle to shore up the bottom end. Not to mention the engine has an insane 13.7:1 compression ratio, and is 400 ci. Comparing that to a stock block Windsor is apples to oranges. By that comparison I can get my 303 Olds to make 2500 horsepower, if I melt it down and recast it as a Chevy LS

Yeah, it's sort of like still referring to an Ardun as a "flathead".

  13. It actually never was an engine comparison until someone opened their mouth and their brains drooled out.

I am from the original run what you brung club. I have actually bit my tongue more than once. Ignorance rubs on me. I have been known to suggest that someone may look for a better option but the truth is if someone put a Crosley in a Deuce coupe I would not be upset in the least. Run what you brung. I'm good with it.

  14. What do you expect from a tri 5 dork?!

  15. LOL well the block is flathead. Uh sometimes. :D

I hate to play the old crossing guard here but let's try to stay with the original, "what's under your bench" theme. I really don't care who makes horsepower out of what or at what expense. There's some really cool extreme vintage engines out there but that's not the topic of this thread. Let's try to stay on track and not get the thread shut down.
I keep going back to look at that stack o Lincolns....

Want to get this good thread back on track. Here's a few more engines I have waiting around for projects. Here is the 394 I yanked out of my '61 Super 88, along with a 292 Y Block that came out of a 59 Ford parts car, an early 60s 383 B MoPar, and a 348 Chevy truck engine.

    IMG_7014.jpg

I was building a 59 Edsel Ranger and the project has sort of stalled, but I'm hopeful to get back on it. I had set the chassis up for a SBC/700R4, but have since stolen that drivetrain out of it for another project. I'm thinking instead of another SBC, I'll use either the 394 Olds or the 292 Y Block. I'm leaning towards the Olds since I have a big hoard of Olds parts that I need to use, but I might lower the compression a bit since I want to run on 87. Both are cool, but expensive and will need an adapter to run an OD automatic.

I will play .... Obvious from my avatar I am one of those "Dodge guys"
I did see this 1951 8BA come up for sale on FB .... I paid $150 for the chance to pull it out of the scrap pile.
Has a few issues but it was rebuilt with low miles on it .... it will be a runner.
For now I keep it under a blanket next to the dryer .... I do not own any Ford vehicles.

Until I let her look closely, my wife thought they were gyros , the Greek meat that they roast vertically. Lol.
    Hmm, I’m getting hungry….

I picked up this 327 and I think it's pretty cool. It uses all stock Chevy parts...for example..the block is a 1965..the heads are 1968 camel hump. The intake is a 1965 300 horse deal for a Carter carb. Has the matching 3721 Carter carb. Also came with an 891 iron dual point. Has a finned balancer and a curved water neck. To top it off is a pair of sand cast Edelbrock valve covers. Pretty sure it has L79 style pistons. Was probably built in the late 60s or early 70s..came out of a big Austin Healey.

Eventually I'd like to detail it all up and put it on this run stand till I find something to put it in..

IMG_20230123_193031550.jpg IMG_20230123_193041781.jpg Here is my stash of engines,,,272 and 292 Y blocks and a 302 and 352-w. Behind them are two 235s and a 261,one 235 is going in my 37 Chevy p/u and the other two sizes are for future projects. Since I have Y blocks I am going to put my 2 cents in,I think a Y block has more low end torque then a Windsor and they are decent engines but I believe they were designed for lighter vehicles. I put a 351-w in my 55 Sunliner and the original 272 had way more low end torque then that 351 but the dipshit that built the 351 for me did not put in the cam I wanted and the one that was installed started making power higher in the RPM range then I wanted. I have since put a stock cam in but has not been driven much since to determine if it helped but my 55 is going to get a Y block again and holding out for a 312.

I've got this 318 poly that was in my Sweptside when I first got it. 318Poly.jpg
Other that a leaking front main seal it ran really well and has some pretty hard to find parts like the Weiand intake and the finned valve covers. Spitfire.jpg
I also have this 251 that was in my '48 Chrysler. We rebuilt it a long time ago before I decided that I wanted to put a hemi in it (the one that's in my Sweptside now). Never been run. Also have a couple of hemis in various states of disrepair.

Sadly, the back half is gone. Space is limited where I`m at. The front half will be made into a run stand. This is my buddy`s shop. It a took a bit of muscle to move this thing. And I don`t even own a trailer. IMG_5832.JPG
