I beat the hell out of my nailhead A sedan. Street, drag strip, pendine and hill climbs. I plan on doing the same with the big block 5 window I'm now building.

This is my perfect vision of a "Street Brawler.. clean, understated and just so right.....
Mr Haas built it and has since sold..... to me... its just so perfect.
And I am no GM guy.. but man......I could be.

Oh this thread may have inspired Mrs. Pk'n'Bner. Not home yet but as of yesterday @3 she owned this old coup. No decent photos yet. Maybe next week.

  11. Have not, nearest strip would require a trailer to get there. I have gotten air under the fronts tho.

Bias plys and drum brakes aren't really suited to hill climbing but sure make it fun!

  19. There was a class considered @ Pikes Peak that would have required bias plys and drum brakes. I do not know if they ever did it. I was contacted by someone I do not remember who and asked if it was something that I would consider of interest. It was going to be called a "Vintage Class" as opposed to a Nostalgia class. I thought it was an interesting concept.

  20. Yea I was gonna leave that one alone but for years we had a class at the HAMB Drags that the minimum requirement was 150 miles one way and it got to the point that if you were not driving a 10 second car you were not competing.

Several guys were like you Jim, driving and racing their daily driver.

StingRay stated , can not find a challenger on street,

In Hawaii ? or in KS

If Hawaii , I think there is One drag strip there & on the big island , is street brawling / racing there going on in Hawaii street/roads?

    If Ks ,
Do you live in a Very small town?

A Street Brawler should not be trailered unless broken , & should be able to driven several hundred miles in a single trip.

  23. The drag and drive crowd is the real deal. Several hamb members do drag week and other events. You drive a thousand miles in a week. Every day you race the car then drive to the next track. It's done in any kind of weather conditions on any kind of road. If the cars not a true street car it won't make it. Give it a try.

I put my '60 Biscayne together in the spirit of mid 60s street racers. She's got a 331 Chevy, all late 60s/70s hop up goodies under the hood, M20, 3.73s with welded spiders..

One of best compliments I've ever received on this car was from an older gentleman at the monthly VPA second-saturday swap meet a while back. I saw him bee-line it past half a dozen much nicer, much cooler cars to come check my shitbox out all over. He told me "this car is EXACTLY like what me and my buddies drove when we were in high-school!" I had a real proud dad feeling all day after that! To have a stranger come up to you and just understand exactly what it is that you're trying to do, that's a great thing.

  25. @flamedabone drove the sedan over 1000 one way several times and held he "yay hoo" several times. One year his crank busted close enough to home for him to coast in.

    It's not quite a brawler yet, but with a little more work on the tune-up she'll be right there. :D 20220609_162953 (1).jpg 20220609_163350 (1).jpg 20220609_163513 (7).jpg

  29. The wife's 40 is just a 327 (300 horse) car. It will be more of a sheep in wolf's clothing than a gennie street brawler to start with. There is 400+ horses in the barn that could be bolted in over a weekend. We probably won't tell anyone when we do it. LOL

  30. @427 sleeper says he's gonna ''tune it up a little''. You know, tighten the bolts and such. Too bad there's not already a hole in that hood.
