  4. In tribute to the late, great, Jeff Beck, I sketched this out last night. It is not perfect
    but will do for now...
    Rest in Peace Jeff.

And a little drawing I came across in an old sketchbook. A drawing I'd never finished
    until now.
It was a loose thumbnail idea for a larger rendering, which I still hope to get
to some day, featuring the '53 Marilyn Eldorado.

    Hello,

There was a discussion about using a 4 door hardtop as a daily driver or custom car platform. Most started out as family cars. But, the creative minds of teenagers and access to the car’s usage prompted many to start somewhere, while changing the original appearance.
    upload_2023-1-13_5-51-19.png
A lowered rake, Buick Skylark Wire Wheels and a slight chopped top made the 4 door look acceptable as far as a custom cruiser is concerned. But, we all know the open windows of the 4 door hardtop makes the largest open air cruiser around.

Westside of Long Beach teens going to a wedding…

Our friend’s 1956 4 door Chevy Hardtop with blackwalls and full hubcaps turned into whitewall tires with black painted rims along with little center hubcaps for a different style. They added dual pipes and mufflers with chrome exhaust tips. This was 1958 and small custom touches started the game…

In the days of teenage budgets, it took whatever was available that the pocketbook allowed. Our 58 Impala had full hubcaps that came off instantly. No hubcaps was better than full hubcaps. It had black rims/skinny white walls that turned into blackwalls, too.
    upload_2023-1-13_5-56-12.png
Then, over the years, several different color rims and eventually years later, Buick Skylark Wire Rims.
    upload_2023-1-13_5-56-47.png Thanks, @themoose
Performance was the key in this car. So, we had straight down tube exhaust caps welded in place. Then during the phase of “scavenger pipes,” they bolted to those down tube caps. Finally, a Racer Brown Cam, C&O Sstick Hydro, of course, headwork and Positraction all played an important part of being a teenager. YRMV

But for 4 door hardtop models, it was all cruising with the windows down for the complete Summer So Cal cruising style.

Can’t remember if I have posted this one before or not. I would love to build this truck exactly as I have drawn it. 309B4F0B-1333-431E-A029-29DB9DAA6FD3.jpeg 852BB6B0-1C23-4794-A2F9-8B89FB89D65B.jpeg

How exciting to see the Omaha coupe in your art rendering; this hot rod was an exciting part of my first drag racing experience. My home base of Grand Island, Ne., had a nice drag strip at our local airport; this facility was a storage, repair, and overhaul station for giant bomber airships in WW Two. This provided an excellent concrete runway that was not needed for the day-to-day operation of this small regional airport. The coupe came from Omaha and was driven by Howdy Williams, a young man with excellent driving skills. The Olds powered coupe was Top Eliminator when there. That team later built a regular dragster running at 150 mph speeds which were exceptional for the mid 1950'sand ruled events then. The seeking out and putting this car back into circulation is impressive, and kudos to Tom and his team!

  21. ^^^ Amen to that @sololobo Larry, thanks for the first hand history!" South O is very well represented by Tom and you and the Turds, etc.!

Photos I took of the car at World of Wheels which I believe was one of the coupe's first public events after decades of dormancy.

That is a very nice tribute to Jeff Beck; he was a hot rod guy. I had an exciting experience living in Santa Barbara, Ca. and meeting Jeff; it was a Sunday afternoon at the California Hotel, and I was sitting in a large open-air window watching my friend's blues band, Los Pontiax, play. a red 32 Ford roadster rumbled up and parked, and two men get out and come in; I recognized one as Seymour Duncan of guitar pickup fame but did not know the other. A friend said, wow, that is Jeff Beck. At the break, the band chatted with Jeff and offered to play, but he declined. They stayed for a few more songs and left; it was a real thrill to get to shake his famous hand and have that close-up experience. I was told that Mr. Duncan stored Jeff's roadster for him to enjoy when visiting the area.

It was just a few years ago I learned that the factory name for the four-door hardtop is "Sport Sedan", this is a cool name to help the four-door image.

  29. I was trying out a few ideas for my chopped and severely narrowed 36 ford pickup. This idea uses a custom frame with a v6 engine and transaxle mounted in the back. 36pickupontrailer.jpg 36FORDpu_art.jpg
