One more trendy BS thing! Has popped up too many times. I think!!
Over copyed. Plus foolish to think of as a finish.
I like seeing temporarily ,that point in a build that things get cleaned up*,getting ready for the final smooth out before primer an filler an then the shiny cool finish. But to fall into the trendy raw, ready to rust thing, just cus Jimmy Shine didn't get around too the shiny paint he was going to do,an it turned into big trendy BS. No that is not anything but copycat BS. Stop it !!!as a finish!=it is not!
    Enjoy it temporarily,but that is all ! Don't be lazy,keep moving ! :D:cool:

In Southern Arizona, where I live, its a very practical way to finish a car.

I scuff it up every 5 or 7 years, and its trouble free.

Unlike some paintjobs I've payed for that got baked off in less than 6 months.

And besides that, if you dont like it, just move the fuck on... :)

I am a huge fan of raw metal cars as a milestone in a build. I even like it if they are ran around like this for a time, but I also believe that a car isnt finished if it isnt painted.

I just love raw steel cars. In my opinion, eventually they need paint but raw steel is so beautiful, dont be in to much of hurry to cover it up. I drove my raw steel 34 today, and I am thinking of leaving it in the nude all year now. I'm not a fan of this look. I will say that there are a few cars that look good done this way, the one above being a good example, but most I don't like. I'm also not a fan of fake patina. Just my 4 cents (inflation). However, "different strokes for different folks".

I'm good with the roll it out to one show to show off your metal work before you put it in the shop and prep it for paint but this nonsense of parading a car around for years while packing your supply of Gibbs oil and scotch brite pads is pretty lame when is all said and done.

BTW, my Roadster is really bare metal.

No coating or oil or anything like that.

Model A's have a couple of exposed seams on the outside, and I would worry if some sort of penetrating oil would get in there.

How would you ever get it out when its time to paint it...

Long time ago there was a guy selling some magical mystery product, hounding me to put it on my car.

After some time of that I told him I would, if he'd guarantee, in writing, there would be absolutely no problems with painting it later on.

I got the desired result, the hounding stopped... :)

I have tried to apply Epiglass PA10 primer to gibbs coated metal and it would not stick,- but supposedly most paints will.
I did not sand it or rough it up before applying the paint.
Great product, (probably one of the best), for a penetrant, - which is what it says on the label.

I don't keep them bare metal for long around here, they have a nasty habit of turning brown rather quickly.
