Chuck, Thanks for posting the pics. Gary, the scoop was an Ebay find about 2 years ago. I don't remember who I bought it from. The car is now disassembled for final paint and I hope will be on the road in about 30-60 days. Doc.
Don't know what it will run, maybe we should take it to the HAMB drags and find out. We left a lot of tune in the motor just to be safe, but I can assure you that it will be driven. I suspect that it will be pretty quick for a flatty. Doc.
Very kool Doc. HAMB drags next year for sure I hope. I think I would really like to hang out in your garage on an afternoon. You got the stuff......
Okay, for those who are interested. I started with the motor which was built by Steve at Uncommon Engineering. He built the motor as a replica of the Yates/Newmire flathead which powered the first 7 second sling shot dragster in 1955. It features a : 286 CI flatty 3.375 bore x 4:00 stroke date stamped '55 4-71 jimmy blower one off 2" Gilmer belt drive Custom manifold built from old D&S 2 pot manifold one off pulleys Offy 425 heads with lots of chamber work Isky 1021 cam (origionally mastered about 1951) manley stainless valves 1.600 intake and exhaust" Hilborn two port injection with carabine ecu/efi That's enough for now, gotta keep some secrets. You can read more about this motor at Steve's website if you wish. The chassis is original Henry which has been boxed and braced. The tranny is a beefed up 700r4, and the rearend is a Winters quick change. The front is a full Pete and Jakes with hairpins and a drilled superbell with a 4 " drop. The car will have front discs mounted on the 12 spoke American spindle mounts. The rear wheels are original Halibrand magnesiums 15 x 10 with 3" backspacing. I designed all of the guages and they were built by classic. The rear view mirror is for a P-51 mustang and the drag chute pull is an original from a C-47 short landing rig (thanks Bluto). The steering wheel is a one off by Savage made out of snowmobile connecting rods. I made the rear lights out of import pistons and connecting rods, and the headers are one off zoomies. The body has a 2 inch chop and a 4" channel. I won't bore you any further, but those are some of the details since you asked. Doc.
WOW, can't wait to see it run at the HAMB Drags next year.....and perhaps get a ride. PLEASE keep the updates coming as progress continues.
very nice Doc, take a bow, you know i love black and red, couldn't have done bettrer myself .. cya out there....good guys this year?
Nice, very nice. It's so good to see a traditional dragster and you have done a great job there. I'm so sick of seeing the ass dragging sedans. Let this style be the model of perfection for the future. And yeah, bring it to Texas! Thanks.
