Hi. I need help with locking rubber for my 55 van. Its regular locking rubber around a windshield except 4 corners where it's a 90° angle.. The old rubber seems to be mitered at 45° then glued together somehow.. My question is what kind of glue is used?? I found a place that will cut the glass if I make the template.. I wish I could just take the van but it's huge and won't fit in a trailer. I need the windshield so I could drive it down and they can finish the work.. This is the same windshield
If my wife couldn't find out, I'd just don a pair of goggles, and sneak on down between 3:30 and 5:00 AM.
Gee, thanks for dropping me in it Dawie ( @Ned Ludd ).... Good quality Cyanoacrylate adhesive will do the job. Common name: 'SUPERGLUE'. Loctite 404 would be an example. Note I said good quality. Stay away from the cheaper stuff. .... or, if you want a black joint to match the rubber (and who wouldn't), try this..... https://www.rencosupplyonline.com/product_p/bmg466.htm (The original rubbers may have been hot spliced or vulcanized together.)
Cut an oversized piece of plexiglass, duct tape it on the outside and drive it to the glass shop? The local glass shop will come to my shop and install the glass.
I don't see anything special there. If I don't have a reproduction piece available, I use basically the same gasket that's used on heavy equipment. It's universal, but there are different sizes and offsets. And if I have a break in my gasket, I mask it and patch in with urethane, and screet it with a metal blade to hide my patch.
I always wondered if the miter joints on these rubber seals could be used with the old bicycle vulcanizing rubber tube repair kits.
Hey flattie, are you talking about the corners at the center divider bar? There's no screws on the inside to take that bar off?
