Finally got some timeslips. 11.23 @ 120 thru the mufflers no bottle. Raced it some in the local stick shift class this summer and had a ball. Ignore the rat nest on the inner fender that's fixed now.

You'll knock off at least 3 tenths if it doesn't bog and you power shift it. Very good time for a great looking '55. But can be quicker.

Thank you I just found your build thread I'll catch up on it soon.

Your White Lightnin' 55 was/is a big inspiration for my car. That car was so damn cool. The photo of you guys flat towing it with the 60 El Camino is legendary. In my mind anyway haha. Yeah I'm kind of a sissy, still getting used to it, still not a great stick car pilot. Might get some balls next year and see what a 5-6 grand sidestep will do. I get knocked out first or second round every race but it's still a great time.

Yep, original seat to the car. Wish I would've bought a 2-door seat for it. Another 5-600 bucks I didn't have at the time.

    It's a '78 454, 361959 2-bolt block, 7416 forged GM crank, 460 cubes, 11:1, Isky hyd. roller, AFR 290 oval port, air gap, AED 950, Hooker 2.125" headers.

G101A trans, RAM single disc street clutch, 57 Pontiac rear with a 4.10 gear.

Thanks to the HAMB classifieds for the steering wheel, the shifter, and the front and rear wheels:cool:

quick question, did you have to recess the fire wall on either side to clear the valve covers? I am putting a 489 stroker in my car and I have been unsure about valve cover choice so far as i want to leave the firewall alone as much as possible. I putting the car on a roadster shop chassis which comes with the big block side mounts as part of it but not exactly sure where they land the block. I know the old trick was moving the old style side mounts 3/4 inch forward.

You didn't ask but I think M/T rocker covers are the coolest, either raw, polished or black finish.
    Not my covers.

Nice job, Kevin! 11.23 is gettin' after it pretty good, e

Kevin will probably give you his version, but when I swapped the 454 into my 55 I did have to relieve the firewall a bit. I'm using side mounts that position the engine 3/4" ahead of stock and the engine did clear even with tall (Moon) valve covers, but it would've been difficult if not impossible to take the valve covers off with the engine in place if I didn't modify the firewall. I did about the minimum of modification to make it easy to get the valve covers off, but even at that, it made it so a stock heater wouldn't fit. Thanks Craig! For the words and the info on the big block swap a couple years ago. The pics and info on your car helped quite a bit to get this rat stuffed in there.

Denny I agree with that 100%. Any engine.

Fitnessguy I will send you a PM.

I was going to post it on the "TV" cars thread then realized it was his personal car and not part of the Giant movie production.

Truth being told, I'd be happy as a lark with any of the cars in there!
