had another crazy dream....the roof of my portable garage got ripped off and a big branch fell on the hot rod and flattened it, but when I got up the car was still intact but crushed the top of the donor car.....I jumped out of bed and looked out the window and everything's good.

  2. Different kind of breathers came in today, I've always wanted a set of dual breather M/T for my blown big block, I've had one set of breathers and the valve covers for a couple yrs now but never wanted to coin up for another pair of breathers.
Last week I took the plunge because I thought I was buying something else but it didn't materialize, so now I just have to strip the black paint and polish.

A couple unexpected OT fabrication projects later.....I'm finally getting back to the dragster. I don't really know where I left off last post but I finally got the chassis far enough along to get it off the frame table today. I have some final finish welding on the cage and misc. brackets that I couldn't reach with it up so high. I think it looks much further along on the jackstands than it did on the table. :)

Assembled a front drum brake...Stared at the rest of the parts, still waiting on my painter to bring the chassis back.

The truck is ready for the track ! I picked up 29 gallons of Cam 2 $319.99, one new SFI jacket $ 80.00 and a new Snell 2020 helmet $ 95.00 ( a ebay deal ) No wonder I gave this up years ago. I haven't had a car in the bleach box for 35 years but that is about to change ! IMG_0770.JPG IMG_0778.JPG

Today after work I sat in the garage and thought of some things that will make driving more enjoyable. Foremost, brighter headlights came to mind.

  9. Spent 2 afternoon's tuning the 2x4 set up on the coupe and 50$ of high test gas. Today was nice out so I took her out and romped on her. I am very close on the tune. Throttle response is fantastic, Just a little more tweaking yet. WIN_20221105_16_19_02_Pro.jpg WIN_20221105_16_20_24_Pro.jpg

I am looking forward to it, and as you know that starting line separates the wheel hoping , coughing , hesitating POS from a real machine LOL I don't want to end up like Don Renfro !

I know right, that has to be one of the greatest ever. The first time I saw it years ago I was wondering where did that guy standing there come from ? oh he was driving lol

  15. Put an OT water pump pulley on my 351W (I swapped out the standard driver's side pump for a '68 sbf passenger's side pump to gain a little room in front). The pulley is a high-volume (smaller diameter) for a Ford FE, which puts the crank, alternator and water pump pulleys in alignment. I'd rather have a stock version but haven't found one yet.
Also, installed the crossmembers and the fuel tank that I moved to the rear of the '29 AA. Just another two steps forward. Next up, carburetor and transmission rebuilds. The first I know I can handle. The second likely gets farmed out to someone competent.

  17. going to work on a old dragster scoop I have to put on the 2x4 set up on the blower. Will post some pictures later. The scoop is fiberglass and needs work.

  18. So, I cut the front off this old scoop because I did not like the mouthy look. This is just a mock up, still have shaping and trimming work . So far I am digging it. Looks kind of like Mike Smith's scoop he has on his bad blown Model A. Still in progress, will be body worked and painted the color of the coupe. Dinking around with the fuel pressure regulator. Took a short drive for a warm-up prior to changing the oil before winter storage. It’s a 348 Chevy tri-power in a ‘31 Model A . Ran like crap, real rich, pushing 6 psi at the metering block. I backed out the screw on the regulator two more turns (worked great prior) and still 6 psi and flooded the Rochester 2G carbs. Changed the oil, fired it up again the next day, 3 psi…. perfect. Probably get a regulator rebuild kit next spring.

    Still a good day!

All my big plans didn’t come to fruition, so, I aired up the tires, gave it a pat on the fender, and then peeked out the window at it a few times. Ugh, I gotta invent the “next big thing” so I’ll be rolling in dough - hahaha!

The day has come for the moment of truth. Six am me and the wife leave the house for the swapmeet and test and tune. It rained all night and continued off and on until one pm. There was still a really good crowd of spectators and a lot of vendors considering the rain.
My hats off to the crew at Farmington , they got the track dry and had cars running by about 2:30. So I have drove this truck for 10 months without a skip, now here I am sitting in staging letting it warm up and it starts acting like it is flooding. I shut it off and take a look no sign of flooding . Crank it up and it sounds good , I get in the bleach box and it falls apart again, stumbling , back firing out the exhaust.
This is unbelievable! I get back to the truck and we stick a fresh set of points in and set the dwell (I had a meter with me, but no condenser )
Fire it off with the new points and the problem is still there. So I load it up and we are homeward bound.
But what a great day, we sold a few things and I plan on upgrading to a tach drive distributor and I bought two sweet old school tachs today. Plus I love the interaction my truck brings. There were guys more disappointed than me that I couldn't make a pass.
I changed the condenser this morning and she is right back to her all business nature. I had a new Mallory magneto condenser ( at least that is what DSCN2682.JPG DSCN2681.JPG IMG_0791.JPG IMG_0786.JPG DSCN2677.JPG DSCN2678.JPG I came up with ) and mounted it on the firewall in a much easier to service location. The love of the machine can be rough !
