  3. I'd guess it's the head wind. Those old cars have all the aerodynamics of a barn door. :)

It does look like there is ice forming on the bottom of the catrb. Melts when I shut it off.

This trip has been pretty boring. No roadside repairs to speak of. Maybe the trans will go?

Never leave home without one of these, a pair of tin snips, and some aluminum dryer vent ducting and an old empty, red Folgers coffee can, as a source of metal to do roadside fabrication.
Your results may vary, from state to state and altitude!

Then we can see how to install tire chains in a blizzard!

  20. I see a ballast resistor on the firewall in your engine photo. Maybe you can relocate it somewhere near your throttle body.

Put chains on my '77 Chevy 3/4 ton 4 times. Didn't need to, but living in SoCal we had to because the CHP said so. As far as I'm concerned that was about 5 times too many.

The snow was fun. The road was OK, there was even a plow out.

If the carb is icing, I bet the heat tube going through the exhaust manifold has a hole in it and sucking in exhaust with moisture in it. I had that happen to an AMC 6 I had.

It quit raining before I got out of Oklahoma. I'm in Abilene now. It's chilly but dry.

The ice on the windshield was interesting, and a bit dangerous. I let it build up too much, then when I pulled off to clean it off, it fell in front of my eyes, I had to move around to see over it and stop. Also, the brakes had got wet, and took a while to stop, and it pulled to the side. After that, I checked the brakes pretty often.
