That 57 was owned back in the 80's by a man named Jim Davis (there were 2 Jim Davis' and one of them is @SUNROOFCORD but it was the "other Jim" that had this car) in Minnesota. He cruised with us to the kkoa event in Des Moines in 82. I think the car was in primer then. I don't know much more than that about it though. Always wondered what happened to it

Here is a pic of Walt`s 54. It is now a different color and has scallopes. You can tell by the pictures, it was a wide open area with lots of grass. With trees along the north side with a paved roadway going down the center running east and west. Then on the southside there was a fence. Parking for spectators was where they have the autocross for Goodguys. It was kinda strange, the whole area as large as it was, the cars were spread out. Almost covering the entire area. This was there, but the pic was taken 3 years later. And 30 years earlier is what it used to look like. He did not know the history of the car when he restored it. Scan0739.jpg IMG_20200303_0001.jpg

Like I said, I was 12. My mind wasn`t clogged with girls yet. This show is one of the best shows I ever been to. Maybe because it was my first all custom show. It warped Moriarity`s mind also. He went home and turned his 55 Chevy into a custom. He`s never been the same since. Would love to see a Custom gathering of cars at the Howard Johnsons hotel sometime. The parking lot show at night was an event in itself during the weekend. IMG_20200409_0004.jpg

I always thought this was neat. The first pic is one dad took. The other two are from a book. Class of 57 must of been added later. That pic must of been from 84. The car looks a bit different now. Scan0425.jpg Scan0426.jpg Scan0432.jpg

After first seeing the shoebox in post 67 above at a World of Wheels show in Des Moines in probably 1979, I made this model as a form of tribute.

It was at The World of Wheels show also in about 2000 when they had it at the Events building on the Fairgrounds as well. You can`t forget those cone headlight covers.

This car was there. My dad took the pictures the following year in Ohio`s KKOA show. The other 2 are from a book which were taken at the show. Scan0669.jpg Scan0667.jpg Scan0668.jpg

Eldon Titus`s 49 Buick was there. I took this a year later. The majority of the pic`s I see of this car are from the 3/4 views. Who is Eldon Titus. I didn`t know at the time. All I IMG_20210122_0001.jpg knew was that the Buick was in advertisements for Red Crown Valve stem caps. Kinda wierd, A guy came buy today to drop off a seat. He delivered a 49 Buick frame to the powder coaters before coming by. A fastback that he`s redoing. -----------Kontinental Kustoms and Hollywood Duces.

Scanner is acting up a bit. Here`s a Model A that was in the side lot for cars that didn`t meet the criteria. A beautiful car. IMG_20210128_0001.jpg

I rode to the event in 82 in the back seat of my pal Terry's freshly chopped Merc. Didn't have any glass yet (plexiglass siliconed in W/S ) He made My friend Barry and myself pay for all the gas cuz he was broke from buying the new bias ply Sears whitewalls for 150 bucks (all 4)... this was the event that forever changed my direction as far as the car hobby. I had never been exposed to custom cars prior to this. Pretty amazing event

Pic copied from the Mike Keys book

I rode shotgun in Dad`s truck(early 55) IMG_20200829_0002.jpg . Another local took his 55 Chevy. Stayed across the street from the headquaters. There was a 55-57 Chevy show Sunday at the hotel parking lot. It as about to begin, we left and went to the KKOA show. Later that year, dad got a 51 Vicky that got the mild custom treatment.

See that flamed 51' Merc in the background? Here's the same car at a wedding last Saturday. Same owner, Keith Bell after 40+ years as well.
