IMG_20221022_032855315.jpg Annual chili dinner was Saturday for the Denver Timing Association club. I always like a good chili dinner and it was a good excuse for a road trip. I've been missing seeing the guys so Saturday at 4:00 AM, my banger buddy Rick and I set off to get there in time to help set up. He has a '28 A coupe powered by a hopped up flathead B. I drove a '31 A Victoria with an OHV on a Burtz banger block.
The wind messed with us on the way there but got so bad, on the trip back, it took every bit of effort to keep the car in it's lane...sustained 30-35 mph with gusts to 65 mph. Mostly at 12:00 to 2:00...a head wind. With an aerodynamic brick we passed no other cars slower than us on the return.
Enjoy the photos... there will be DTA car photos too, so hang in there IMG_20221022_043841059.jpg Gas topped off in Clines Corners, NM and the sun coming up around Wagon Mound, NM IMG_20221022_064715331.jpg

See probably some of the last remaining semaphore signals still in use on a Class 1 rail line. IMG_20221022_072021371.jpg Car shadow and my ghost beard reflection in the window

Springer NM and the Livery Stables built there in 1881 around the time the Santa Fe main line was constructed thru there... IMG_20221022_073515039.jpg IMG_20221022_074047824_HDR.jpg IMG_20221022_074403010.jpg IMG_20221022_080154150.jpg

IMG_20221022_080527766.jpg Don't know why they didn't go around it, but they cut right thru the middle. I guess it was to make it look like a guy with a Mohawk on the right IMG_20221022_081004202.jpg IMG_20221022_081315608.jpg Coming up on Raton, NM IMG_20221022_081823245.jpg

IMG_20221022_152108793.jpg we made it to Troy Hastings facility by 2:00 pm the wind got so bad out of Trinidad, it took two hands on the wheel to keep the cars in their lane. IMG_20221022_152118068.jpg IMG_20221022_152139427.jpg IMG_20221022_152154729.jpg

IMG_20221023_084815403.jpg great fellowship with like minded folks. The return trip didn't allow for picture taking from behind the wheel.
We did 900 miles, ate chili and more chili then went for ice cream condensed into 36 hours
IMG_20221023_114529355_HDR.jpg plus we got to road kill lots of tumbleweed
Thank you DTA for a great time
