77 years old and for the first time in my car building career I can't make up my mind. I've built countless deuce roadsters of all configurations. My current project is a Flathead powered roadster with a quick change, A spring and A cross member. I debating tank or no tank, bobbed horns with curved spreader bar or as I've done several with tidy small rolled pans. This is my last project. Looking for opinions, criticisms etc. Getting old ain't for sissies.

No tank makes your 32 roadster look like a Model A. Admittedly it does allow you to show off your QC which is not really visible with the tank in place. How important is that ?

Also consider why do folks building Model A's go to all the effort of fitting a 32 tank ? They want them to look like a 32.

If no tank, where will you put the gas tank? In the trunk?

I vote for something like this…especially with a QC!

I prefer a stock tank, with a stock looking filler. With the front of the tank notched for the quikie. I despise reproduction tanks that look like a “loaded diaper”.
    Just my opinion.

I like no tank but saddle tanks in the sides of the trunk, rear really shows up good. With saddle tanks, you still have plenty of trunk space.

If it sits kinda low, no tank. If it sits average highboy height, then a tank is OK.

  11. Call me weird, but I just don't get this compulsion some people seem to have to 'show off' the differential in their car.

  16. It really depends on the style of the car, but a tank is a good default because it usually always looks good, but no tank needs to be on the right car…

    clear as mud?

Has anyone ever started a pole on Quick change rears? "Have you ever changed gear rations in your quick change? Do you own different ratio gears to make the swap?

  19. It has come up. The short answer is, with very few exceptions in street cars, they never get changed.

No tank, show your quick change.

  21. No tank here. Show off that Q.C.. If I had a car with the tank out back, I'd worry I'd get run into with gas spraying all over my car. Not for me.
And I swap out the gears 34repairs4_19.jpg in my quick change when I'm taking an interstate trip or racing at the HAMB drags. Got 3 sets.

At least with a Winters V8 unit, you shouldn't have to notch the tank. If no tank, and the rear horns are shortened, will the front frame horns be removed?

The gas tank is a design feature of the '32 Ford. I like them on both a HiBoy and a full fendered '32. IMG_0664.jpg
