I’m looking to put the gas filler in my 57 Chevy cameo truck behind one of the rear lights to shave the filler.

does anyone know of a kit or way of doing it that’s neat? Anyone done it on a cameo?

Start off by going to the local hardware store and look at the various kitchen cabinet door hinges.

That one looks like it has a pretty simple hinge and latch mechanism. Tailgate gas filler DD (2).jpg

Are you going to put a tank in the rear of the chassis as well?
I’d hate to dribble fuel in from the taillight to the cab.

I want to take the tank out of the cab and put something under the bed ahead of the rear end. It’s having a c4 rear.

I’ve just found this picture online and currently trying to figure what it is and how it works!!

If you blow up the picture it looks like a linear actuator moves the tail light open and closed. Thats how I did it on my 49 Buick.

Any chance you’d have some pictures of your installation? Really keen not to have something that rattled around or that damages the light unit itself. They’re $1500 a pair I’ve just found out

gas filler 2.jpg Here are the only pictures I have which doesn't so the actuator or the hinge. Notice the pin on the taillight and the round hole on the body that locates the taillight in the correct position every time. gas filler 1.jpg gas filler 1.jpg
I made the hinge from flat stock and threaded rod and nuts welded so it would pivot on the rod using the nuts for hinges. Hope that made some sense.:D
