New Guy from Virginia

Discussion in 'New to the H.A.M.B.? Introduce yourself here!' started by Mike Riley, Sep 13, 2022.

  1. Hello all,
New guy from Virginia here. I've recently bought a 1939 Ford Deluxe Coupe, that still has the flathead motor. Car was partially restored around 2017 and is in great condition. I'm looking forward to working on and enjoying the car. This HAMB group is a JEWEL! and is greatly appreciated!

  4. ..Welcome. Jump onto the Va. HAMB forum. It's a pretty active group and ranges from folks in the Tidewater to Richmond to the Valley to N. Va. with some guys in the SW. Good way to connect and find out what's happening around your state.

  5. x2 what Don said!
Dino 64 and I have Model As up in F'fax Co, @ClutchDumpinDan has a shop in Fredricksburg, and there are a bunch of guys in Richmond & points south.
    :)

  6. Welcome from another Fredericksburg-er! Got a couple cool projects in the shop at the moment. Gimme a shout and feel free to swing by sometime.

Thanks for reaching out hotrodart, and thanks for the FORDBARN information! Here's a couple pictures of my '39. I plan on changing to a 4" drop front axle and lowering the rear a little over the winter. Also want to change the brakes to Lincoln style drums - 5 x 5 1/2" and convert over to 12v.

  12. Terrific ride!!!!! Can't beat a black '39/'40 coupe!! (Mine is black also......would post pix but I am currently out of town and no pix files on this computer). When you get around to purchasing the front end parts, shop around a bit. There a a few differences in what he vendors carry. Cast vs. forged, dropped spindles, tie-rod/ends, reverse-eye spring, bushing materials and more. You might also look into a dual master cylinder arrangement. I had my entire front end ('40 coupe) powder coated, including the wishbone, for the cosmetics and ease of keeping clean. And not really a lot extra $$ while you already have it apart.

    Keep us posted on progress......

  13. Thanks for the insight hotrodart! I'm already knee deep into researching and educating myself on what is needed to drop the 39 down in the front & rear. There's a lot of information/parts available, which I guess is a good thing, just need to decide what will work best for what I want to accomplish. I do also plan on a dual master cylinder. When you get a chance, post some pictures of your 40, I'd like to see it!
