Thank you ! I have to admit i am proud of that. Kind of the meaning of hot rodding or early automotives : Style and the looks, but also functioning and necessary part

Time for some updates here ! For the last month or two i was working on the stainless steel windshield frame.

    Let's start the process :

Figuring out the outlines for center post. IMG_20221112_185429.jpg IMG_20221113_184556.jpg
    IMG_20221113_184616.jpg IMG_20221113_184710.jpg

Need little work to get the right angle: IMG_20221114_185120.jpg

Then was time for baseplate : IMG_20221115_191717.jpg IMG_20221115_203237.jpg

Now theres outlines figured and solid, so time to start shaping 1,5mm stainless steel outer skin : IMG_20221117_204152.jpg IMG_20221117_204235.jpg IMG_20221121_211258.jpg IMG_20221121_214823.jpg

1,5mm stainless steel is real hard to shape. I used handheld airhammer : IMG_20221222_203018.jpg

After rough grinding and rough polishing it started to look good : IMG_20221124_204056.jpg IMG_20221124_204015.jpg IMG_20221124_204149_Bokeh.jpg

This need some straightening : IMG_20221126_195413.jpg
    Much better :

Beautiful windshield post, how did you straighten the bent part?

    Thank you !
Straightening happened mostly with oxy/acetylene torch. Heat to the opposite side of the bend.

  10. Some real nice work and ideas in this thread !

Moving on to the side posts :

    Starting with 7mm SS
IMG_20221213_195400.jpg I wanted to make something special, something to stand out of "normal" duvall or hallock windshields. So i did an groove to the side post :
    IMG_20221213_195625__01.jpg IMG_20221213_195551.jpg IMG_20221222_202827.jpg

    IMG_20221222_202956.jpg IMG_20221222_204247.jpg IMG_20221226_173614.jpg IMG_20221227_203810.jpg IMG_20230102_192804.jpg side post mounting plate :
    IMG_20230117_195507.jpg IMG_20230117_203302.jpg

And there are side posts almost ready to start figuring out the mounting: IMG_20221226_195653.jpg IMG_20221226_195619.jpg IMG_20230113_231208.jpg

I still wanted something more to the side posts, without making it look too thick. So here's what i came up with :
    IMG_20230128_171628.jpg IMG_20230128_171712.jpg IMG_20230131_204243.jpg need some ( a lot ) work to get the angle right when tightening the mounting bolt IMG_20230204_170628.jpg IMG_20230204_191125.jpg IMG_20230204_191135.jpg IMG_20230204_192722.jpg IMG_20230204_191300.jpg IMG_20230204_192747.jpg IMG_20230204_192917.jpg IMG_20230204_192808.jpg IMG_20230204_192812.jpg

I'm happy how these turned out ! Makes it something different from being "just an duvall copy"

Extra impressive if you carved those trenches into the side pieces with a barrel sander on a hand tool, looks like it could have been stamped or machined in. Steady hand, nice work.

One of the main goal for me was making it look like casted piece, not like sheetmetal. Details give some "deep" look to it

  17. Fish plates on the frame for safety’s sake, next to that avatar- oh the irony! Love the build, like the axle stands in the early posts, nice to see things from a different perspective.

Time for the middle parts. IMG_20230207_201047.jpg IMG_20230207_194515.jpg IMG_20230215_195958.jpg

For the first one did this mounting bolts, hoping it would stay in place/shape, but after welding and heat warp, the bolts were causing trouble so i cutted them off.
    IMG_20230215_200050.jpg IMG_20230215_195909.jpg these really needed straightening with oxy/acetylene after welding: IMG_20230302_192147.jpg IMG_20230304_165205.jpg IMG_20230221_212600_01.jpg IMG_20230221_212552.jpg IMG_20230321_211856.jpg IMG_20230321_212024.jpg IMG_20230227_212842.jpg IMG_20230227_212741.jpg

WOW! You've made some very nice shapes in your windshield. I would caution you though if you’re going to have a hood on your car, to mock up the hood before you are completely committed to the windshield. When the car has wheels, hood etc. you might wish that you had adjusted some of the shapes a bit. Thanks for sharing your pictures. It’s very nice!

Brent, these are amazing. NOW I want to play with some stainless!!!

1976, Friend Dave McBride (RIP) cast a pair of ends and a center piece in bronze for my old '29 Highboy.
I was past the rough sanding, into polish... when Bonneville Butch hastily changed my plans.
Car was transport to his shop and he and friend 'Uncle Joe' readied it for B'Ville, 1982.

Thank you. One thing i should do, is pushing the car outside and take a wider view. It hasn't seen daylight since the tudor days :D

Welding pieces together. I did the welds spot by spot and cooling down to reduce heat warpage. IMG_20230328_194622.jpg IMG_20230328_194634.jpg

    After grinding, sanding, polishing : IMG_20230331_223756.jpg IMG_20230331_223914.jpg IMG_20230331_224131.jpg IMG_20230331_224138.jpg IMG_20230331_223954.jpg IMG_20230331_223902.jpg

Happy to get it finally finished after couple months of almost daily work on it !

I think getting a look at the windshield outside is a very good idea. Your windshield will be the “star of the show” so be sure that the supporting cast (body, wheels, engine, etc) all work to make this happen.
