  6. First picture is "Rapid" Red Lange. Two of the "Dead End Kids" Joe Anahory and Spider Razon later went on to fame on the west coast.

I took these pics off a friend's wall last night, Larry Nicholson. He was half owner, and driver of the Nicholson-Wasson AA/D, the other is "The Northwind" Floyd-Albrich-Grimm AA/FD. My old buddy Earl Floyd at the wheel, taking on Tommy Ivo. Earl told me that Fuller built the 117" wheelbase chassis in late 62 or early 63, and Arnie Roberts built the body. After Earl collided with another car in the shutoff area, it was shortened to 112", as in the photo. Note the chain drive blower ! BTW the engine out of the orange Dragster set the AA/SR, NHRA Record in Jack Coonrod's 27 Touring in 1961.

    Hello,

The old photo is when the overhead crosswalk and new timing windows/offices were put in place at Lion’s Dragstrip. But, is that a slightly obscured photo of Bill Bagshaw’s Red Corvette (The Red Light Bandit) waiting in the staging area for the next run?

The covered crosswalk was there in 1964 without the timing facilities added. By 1965, the addition of the timing facilities were in place.

"Tipp'n the can" with a Marlboro in your mouth never seemed like the prudent thing to be doing!

"Found it, different car, he drove Bayer and Frietas twin."

Feel free to straighten out my twin stories . . .

Bayer & Freitas car was such a handful, hardly ever a full run, that it qualified for Middle Eliminator at Fontana. The next week the strip banned dual engine categories from running in Middle Eliminator.

And this one -- Lefty's first twin was a remake of the Arizona Money Olds gas dragster that won NHRA Nationals in 1959(?) or so.
