History KONG JACKSON - Banger Parts?

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Retson the Racer, Sep 21, 2022.

  1. Charles Jackson, also known as "KONG" was mostly known for his V8 dual plug heads, as well as his distributor.

Apparently, there is more information on his V8 stuff, than on his banger parts.
Those that know him, do you have any stories on him or what he made?

So far, I know he has made a few things:

    Front Timing Cover:

Looks like they adapted a distributor from an early '60s Pontiac Tempest four.

My Dad delivered newspapers to Kongs and Wes Coopers shop in the 50s as a young hang around, then in the 70s I had a little racing dirt bike that Kong did some machine work on and also had Yam and Fum Oka... do some radical porting on it, that made that little bike fly! That was my intro that if you want to go fast you need to find people that understand your passions.:p

We knew him for over 50 years and yes he had many stories to tell. He was a genius for making old shit fly but not a very good promoter of his products. There was his way or the Highway! As a literal tour de force tag team with Wes, they built some incredibly fast stuff, Kong would machine the components and Wes would to the final assembly. I remember as a kid, Wes and Kong talking about Ed Winfield and his mentoring of them, which would last a life time to those two men..... that could make a barn door fly!:)
