    IMG_1106.JPG In all reality this thread should be called "Let's see if I can build a T bucket out of a collection of random cast off crap and cheap stuff from the swap, all to avoid starting on my 34 roadster because I have acquired all the right parts yet".
    So I figure if I start with enough stuff to build two chassis maybe I can end up with one complete car at some unknown date in the future. How's that for honesty! Ha!

    IMG_1107.JPG About a year ago I found a free T bucket frame with a real Hurst mount on marketplace. It was on an island south of here. My wife and I made a day of it and grabbed the beer keg that was the fuel tank too. The frame is like 11 gauge or something and very rusty from sitting under a tree. Guy who had it rode in the car in the 80's before it was parted out for the motor etc.
    I'm going to save most of the brackets and reuse them. I got some 3/16" wall tube which I now realize is a bit over kill. I like the tapered design and pipe brace under the rad. I will likely angle the kick a bit though. This one actually leans forward a bit and is crooked.

    I ate a lot of dirt today but it was very therapeutic.

    Saved most of the brackets off the old frame. Story is this that no had a big block in it at some point. Probably why everything was bent and twisted. These rails were .080 tube. Cross member look s like driveshaft or exhaust tube. IMG_1109.JPG

    I'm 6' tall and 220lbs. If I can manage to fit my 34 truck I figure I can get in a T.

    The '34 is quite a bit bigger, in all directions.

    T buckets and T modifieds are just pure fun.

    Years ago I built a T modified out of 26-27 roadster parts. I fit just fine. Even with a manual trans and sprint car style steering. Placement of everything is critical.

    One of these is getting a turbo 350 and a mustang box. Should leave a lot more interior room.

    I stick welded my frame to.
    I cant tig and my mig is to weak for heavy gauge steel.

    IMG_1132.JPG IMG_1133.JPG Got the wheels for the black chassis and the axle for the white on back from the blaster today.
    The black chassis is getting a 5" dropped 34 axle with hair pins and a dana 44 rear the rear wheels are old reversed with what looks like Buick hoops.
    The white chassis will get the chrome impala rear, the A axle and some cool old torque thrusts.

  16. Just mind your seating arrangement and you'll fit, the lower you put your seat the more bent your knees will be, I've often thought about removing the seat back and picking up 6 or so inches of leg room.

    This is not my first rodeo. I built a 27 T years ago with a 5 speed in it. Everything is about placement.

    DSCN1353.JPG.jpg I'm just under 6 foot these days (blew out a few discs in the back...) and weigh 250 pounds. The only real fit problem I have is with my size 9, 8-E width feet. And with small Austin Mini pedals I was able to get 3 pedals down in there... just!

    IMG_1145.JPG Welded in the rear crossmember and the spring perch, then ran out of rod. Boo!
    Picture really doesn't show the taper in the rails.

    I spent the evenings this week fixing wheels and putting tires on. Need to find some brake rotors.

    After several weekends of "Honey doos " I managed to sneak away and get the rear suspension tubing threaded. The rear axle is all cleaned up and ready to fit up. Maybe tomorrow, in between helping my son with his drift truck. IMG_1160.JPG IMG_1164.JPG

    Seems really high, but I guess it will drop a bit with the body on. Real 60's style stance vs a more modern low.

    I think that’s why mock ups are so important in a world where so many cars sit literally on the ground.

    Most traditional cars even threw the 70’s sit like monster trucks compared to something contemporary. But it looks right. Slam a 40’s build 3” off the ground and it looks ridiculous. I see that happen occasionally when someone’s building by tape measure and not looking at what they are doing

  26. I always located the axle ahead of the crossmember to allow for suspension movement; but maybe I'm looking at things differently.

    Jack. The reversed wheels are 5 on 5.5 ford truck. The torque thrusts are 5 on 4.75 Chevy.

    Exactly the point Tim. These dimensions are carried off the old frame using similar parts and as many old brackets as I can. I want legit old style, not new old style.
