Very cool. Do you know much of the history behind it? Rids like this always makes me curious of their stories.
cool car, I enlarged the pics for you, just hit the full image button when posting. I have seen those above the butterfly injector nozzles before. A friend of mine that ran hilborn stack injectors on the street had them, hooked to a low psi elect fuel pump on a toggle switch. they were used to dribble some gas in for cold starting (as opposed to the practice of manually spraying fuel in with a squirt bottle). was that car stored outdoors with no protection from the weather all those years? hope the engine has not rusted tight... also we need more pictures!! cool car man
You guys crack me up with "just get it running and enjoy it" comments. What are the chances of getting a blown, injected, metering pumped, magneto'd engine that sat for 40 years running? Sounds like a recipe for fucking up some really cool parts. That engine NEEDS to come out and all the components gone through. My suggestion would be, throw in a 350/350, get the car running and driving, work the "bugs" out of it, and THEN, do up the killer engine. JMO By the way, WELCOME
It would seem I've found the right place! Here's some of the back story. The owner is my parent's neighbor and I can remember the 1st time I saw it 30+ years ago! Unfortunately he passed away a couple years ago so I reached out to sons about buying the car. Initially they seemed up to parting with it but I could never get a definitive yes, so I just reached out to them once a month. Well last week the son said they were ready to sell so I came over with cash and towed it away. It has a quick change rear end and a powerglide. Interior is currently one old fiberglass bucket with a single hoop rollbar. I pulled the plugs and valve covers and everything is spotless, motor turns over freely. It has some double hump iron heads and what I assume is solid flat tapped cam. My plan for now is install a fuel system with a pair of Holleys and battery. Once I confirm it runs, I'll start working on making it safe and road worthy.
The car sat outside for the last year or so, but before that it was indoors. It has some minor surface rust but absolutely no body rot. I've run elderle injection on my drag boat, so I'm fairly confident the mechanical injection won't work for me. As mentioned above, I'll probably install dual carbs. I know they ran it once about 10 years ago, so I'll check valve spring pressures, prime the motor and start it.
It's easier than you make it sound and yes your limited due to a lack of low idle circuit but when one pulls into a car show it's a headturner and draws attention and it's a gas . Of course it may raise your blood pressure ...
A quick change??? You have found a gold mine. Start a build thread and document your progress. There are many folks who can help you. As far as technical questions, you have some famous and highly qualified people here always ready to help.
Great find! It looks like it's going to be a good build for you. It's going to look good as your working on it. A bit of spit and polish and time. It seems as if you know what you need and you know how to do it. Welcome to the H.A.M.B.
Super cool car. I agree with the others who say don't change a thing. Just wash off the dust, getter running and burn up the rear tires..
i would go along with the get it running and wash it off, but i would rebuild that supercharger, and such, just to make sure that it doesnt get messed up and cost you a lot of money to repair or replace.
I'll start a new thread to chronicle the build. Should it be in this forum? I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions
Question for you guys...I can appreciate the ability to change gear ratios quickly, but are quickchange rears "stout enough" for hard launch drag racing? I just don't see them in drag cars very often .
It would be enough for a dreaded 350/350, Jack! Haha, that car deserves better than a street rod setup. Just my opinion..
I think the flat firewall was used for the engine placement, it looks set back some. It also looks like there is room between the seat and firewall, I’m thinking the seat was moved back as well? It also looks like a longer steering column to make up for it.
that's a really neat car. I like the idea of putting a carb on top of the blower, and driving it around. But you might want to go through all the moving parts first, to make sure they're still moving and lubricated and won't cause problems. Have fun with it!
