Hot Rods Old race car bits and pieces interesting axle 33/4 ford coupe

Guy posted this car on a FB page asking questions and looking for info.

 

My opinion was this axle is a wall hanger.

 

With a roll bar like that it’s an old racer alright. Question is what type of racing. Dirt track maybe?

The suspension set up looks like drag car.
I don’t think that axle would take much abuse

True. I forget sometimes that early drag suspensions were unorthodox in some instances.

 

Add rollbar...jalopy workaround...lighten elsewhere...

 

That's a pretty solid body despite missing it's lower 3 or 4 inches...definately worthy of a ressurection as something go fast...

 

Owner says he bought this with the ford

says it has J2 olds tri power motivation.

Said plans are for a 33/4 chassis. Going back hot rod.

with the slices already on the roof, I’d have to lower that lid.
Oh and that step van in the background. Cool

 

He posted the 34 here on the HAMB within the last couple of weeks.

Yeah,,,,that pic of the car hanging from the rafters was the give away,,,,,I remembered it then .

Not dirt track. There are no weight jackers on the front spring.

 

I wish I owned that chassis, roll bar and axle. Id run all 3 at the vintage drags.

 

The frame's a 32. Maybe they didn't actually go together? Just got piled together after they were disassembled.

 

Not going to be used according to the owner.
I’m sure it could be bought or traded for

I was just posting pics cause it was cool. but I haven’t seen anything pop up

 

Generally the wishbones had to be mitered for clearance with the use of wide wheels on oval track cars.
