They had an optional 2bbl carb, might look into that. I could make a header for it, also....hmmmmm.....

  2. Or maybe a small turbo and a World-class T-5?

Hey man, love reading about your adventures, and this thread!
Don't remember if you mentioned or not but, does the rambler have the old flathead 6 in it?
Just wondering cause I got one in a 65 rambler and having some issues with it.

Is that the engine that has an intake manifold that is basically a flat plate that bolts straight down onto the cylinder head?

    Yep that's the one!
Having trouble with it, just quit on me, has spark and fuel. So I'm thinking timing??? But can't figure out how to get TDC on a flathead.
Sorry squirrel , Don't mean to hijack your thread....

This car has the OHV six, in 1959 the American had the flathead six. They're similar engines, but different. here's mine. Yes, the intake has a flat plate on top that you can change to put a different carb on it.

What are those two cut off hoses in the upper right corner of the picture, the rare heater delete?

  19. That old 6 is pretty clean inside! I always thought the upside down oil filter was cool.

It's almost ready to pull, need to disconnect the clutch linkage still. And see what the torque tube does, I put a jack stand under it in case it wants to go down, if I can get the transmission off the end of it. There are two big studs with rubber isolators that hold the end of the TT to the back of the transmission, and it has a U joint and slip yoke in the transmission also. Open U joint, closed drive line. Weird setup.

I dont have any more 396s but there are two 454s on dollys right next to the back of the car. Just in case things go sideways.

I got it out...head off....looks like it's still standard bore, not a lot of wear in the bores either, just a couple thou at the top.

I'll pull the pan and see how the bearings look, I'm pretty tempted to just put rings and gaskets and freeze plugs and a clutch in it. But that depends on how the rest of it looks. It might have had a valve job, I'll pull the head apart and see how things look in there, hopefully just lap the valves and be done with it.

Offenhauser actually made a dual carburetor top plate for these engines.

yeah there's a new one on ebay for four bills or something...then you have to figure out the linkage, find two working carbs, etc. As long as I don't do any more mountain rallys, the single 1bbl will work ok. 20 mpg is nice, too!

I had one earlier this year; it was one of those deals where I had to buy everything in order to get the pieces I really wanted. It went to a guy in Australia.
