I has been investigate what rearaxle to use on my 32 frame for a pre 1950 hot rod.

I first did like the 35-36 bones but after see a high boy 32 with a 35-36 axle/bones and compare it to the 37-40 axle - the 36 look kind of odd ( but look under the car the 36 bones is Very nice )
Both axles/springs is based on the same idea, so it's not much of a difference of course.
But I has been to more like the 37-40 axles, but I like more the 35-36 bones design/look.
One told me the 35-36 bones is hard to fit on a 37-40 axle strut.
And he mean also few or non did that back in the days.
But 2 weeks ago a saw a very nice chopped 34 coupe here in Sweden and it had the 35-36 bones on a 37-40 axle and the bones was cutted off at ends and he used the spring on the axles struts as std.

    So question is ;
Is this some new ideas or rare or never was back in the days ?

In the hot rod I build it will be allof of black and the bones will be black but front axle in chrome and the brake shields.

Se picture of the 34 coupe rearaxle/bones set up.

I have used 35-36 bones on 37-41 housings. very tight fit on the larger diameter 37-41 housings. takes some grinding. sorry. I guess I deleted the better picture. 2022-04-29 21.25.14-1 - Copy.jpg The current chassis has 35-36 spring mounts on 35-36 housings. I got lucky [shipping cost ] and purchased just the spring mount cut off ends for $100.00. Then used heavy 40 front axle bones that a friend gave me.

I think it's a waste of time to switch them around. Either use the whole 36 axle and wishbones, or use the whole 40 axle and wishbones. Why make more work for yourself? Especially if you plan on cutting the rear hangers off the 36 wishbones. That's the neatest part!

    alchemy,
    Yes normally keep it simple.
But it was nice on the chopped 34 coupe I showed.
Remove the ends is drastic, but as showed bones can be on the thicker axle.
I dealing with parts and has not a complete axle.
I has s std 32 frame, then a A-Ford rear cross and a A-Ford spring and a empty Halibrand house.
But need figure out on wich bones and struts.
I’m not a big fan on the 37-40 bones and the 35-36 axle has so tiny ends.

  5. Seen them used without the spring hangers and moved inboard so the wishbone didn't come out directly under the frame rail on a '32. On the other hand '42-'48 or shortened '37-'40 accomplish the same without "wasting" a set of '36-'36 bones.

I decided to go 35-36 struts/bones and after look on my buddys 31 roadster ”solid gold’ it was easy.

  7. Here is where I was talking about getting close under a deuce frame when they angle in to the torque tube. Maybe I'm seeing it wrong; but it looks like your friend's hook up to the outside of the rails.

Yes he has not a TQ tube ( as I plan )
Bones has a wider end CC at centre cross.
I aware of bend the bones at rearaxle might be needed and I don’t like that.
My plan is get them into the 34 TQ tube as far out as possible and I really not like change Henrys struts either where bones is bolted.

Now why do you want a 34 torquetube? Pick one year of parts and stick with it.

As I got it, the 34 TQ tube is slimmer and not as beefy and more easy to short.
    I saw them from 32, 34, 35-36 and later.

So I like get a 35 TQ tube and driveshaft and a 36 driveshaft ( for headers )

  11. '35 and '36 shafts are the same; tapers good for header tubes; tapers not so good for shortening.

    I found one 34 TQ tube/driveshaft and a 36 driveshaft for headers - so I’m happy !
