The cowl and radiator rope on my 32 Ford are so sticky that the hood seems like it's glued down sometimes - certainly will rip the paint off (when it's painted). Any cure for the sticky?

    Thanks,
    Scott

Goo Gone to remove the rope. Replace with foam weatherstrip.

    My 2 cents.

  3. I had the same exp. with my 32. I outlasted it. If I had to do it over again, I would use a modern seal but I know if you want the original look, that won't work. Mine was a Vintique. I don't know if every brand does the same thing. Sorry I'm not much help.

Thinking of hosing the ropes down with silicon spray.
Wish I know exactly what makes them stick - is that paint, wax, butyl, etc. ?

  5. Maybe try talcum powder????

I like the talcum powder idea, or rub them in the dirt before you install them. Let the sticky get filled up with something else before it makes it to your paint.

Powder or spray seems pretty temporary. I'd consider buying some bee's wax, and rubbing it into the surface to make sure it remains stick free longer.

  8. If you are going to be painting anything on that body DO NOT use silicon spray anywhere near it.

    Silicone is evil

  10. The seals on my old beater are at least 34 years old and they get sticky in HOT
weather, during the cool months I don't seem to notice the hood sticking.

I chalk it up to one of those idiosyncrasies you learn to live with when owning a old car. HRP
