I've found, what appears to be a pretty nice frame. The seller says he believes its a '42-'48 Ford passenger car frame. I think it could be a '41. I've attached a couple of other post and some pictures of the actual frame to help this discussion. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...rtible-on-a-1941-chassis.260923/#post-2769526 https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/41-vs-46-48-ford-frame.35932/ Maybe we can make this a "database" thread for these frames? I appreciate all the help.
As I study these pictures, the reason I think this is a '41 is the lack of the small front cross member. But it could just be missing? And the "hump" in the X-member being flat, not having the X stamped into it.
The guy selling it just sent me a picture of some numbers that are hard to see, on the rear cross member. He said he would try to get something clearer for me.
I see part of a “star” if you look at van pelts site, you’ll know how many of the first numbers you’ll need to ID it. Tell I’m to just hand wire brush them off, I’ve had luck with spitting on my finger and wiping over them a few times, kinda makes the numbers stand out enough to ID
The prefix was often not included in the serial number stamped on the frame in some locations. I read the number as *1513501* . That would make it a 1947 frame. The prefix would have been 799A if i had been included.
Not a 41 ,sold one a while back and the brackets on side of frame are different on a 41, the frame in question matches 46-48 which I have several
Kelly, that is a '42 to early '47 frame with the welded style x-member. The only difference than a '41, is the side body mounts that bolt on the side. It will also work on a '48. If you moved the front crossmember forward, you could also use it in a '41 Mercury, or a '42-'48 Mercury, with slight modifications. Hope this helps.
Thank you @JROTTEN yes it does! There is a little damage where it looks like they ripped out the front cross member, but other than that this sees like a decent frame. I hope your doing well Johnny.
I recently looked up frame specs and 35 to 40 cars and 40 to 41 1/2 ton trucks had the same frame. It looks like some one modified this frame for a v 8 at some time
This might help, as mentioned earlier the center X area is different. Otherwise your frame looks similar to my '46 Tudor one.
