Do over. Can't find original build thread. I think I drew the concept drawing first and then the chassis blueprint. One of the most important elements is the 3/4" pie cut section just above the lower character line on the quarter panel. Easy to do with a scissors on the concept drawing. That puts it parallel to the upper body line and a nice straight shot to the race car type front sheet metal. The frame rails are 6" high at the back. 5" high at the cowl. Then tapers down to 3.5" at the front. They have a 1" radius on the bottom to simulate a rolled pan. I put the curve in the rails with a port-o-power, a torch and a chain. For ground clearance I ovalized the 3.5" exhaust pipes. I used one glass pack cut in half for two exhausts. The floor is dropped 2.5" so I can sit low and look cool driving. No wisecracks please. Why am I using a S B C? My good friend John Mc Donald GAVE it to me and I had the Hilborn in stock.
The sleek metal work shows off your skills and patience, which are commendable and since it will be covered makes it a moot point in a way . If your front and rear chunky frame ends were blended in to the flow of the rest of your chassis ends , I would say a masterpiece. Bare it just draws the eyes and feels just off .
Just stop! Your threads https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/dennis-frings-29-l-a-roadster-show-bound.1265299/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...gs-29-going-to-the-l-a-roadster-show.1263539/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/potential-ambr-contender.1228855/
Not having the skills and equipment to build the track nose like the metal shapers do I figured most the shape is in the upper corners. The rest does not have a lot of shape. This is a picture of the inside of the nose. You can see the triangular pieces I welded in. With a sand bag and a mallet I beat walnuts into the chin. I could not believe how well that turned out with an English wheel. I used 40 Ford front hubs. That way I was able to tuck the Buick drums in and get away from the sticking out " Hey look at me. I have Buick drums "
Be happy he's as active and tech savvy as he is, also at 87 you tend to start thinning out what you have.
A google search shows that the gentleman known as @Frames has done an amazing amount of successful chassis building for almost 60 years. From other threads it appears that he is a very knowledgeable flathead engine rebuilder. seems to be a bit of the tall poppy syndrome on here at times, by a small minority, - instead of respect..…… .
I sold [ for one hell of lot less than what it would have cost to build it ] the car to a building contractor from Georgia. I can only hope and pray they don't get crazy ideas to change it. Like the wheel covers, headlights and the color. The infamous Joe Nitti 32 from 1951 was Royal Triton purple! The Boyd Coddington CADZILLA is dark purple also. T V show Counting Cars. His C O E is purple. Good enough for them.
maybe it’s a term not used in the USA…… Google search quote : “A tall poppy is someone who stands out from the crowd, usually by excelling at one or more pursuits. Sadly, many New Zealanders are all too familiar with this phrase as they have been 'cut down' by those around them, taunted for their success and discouraged from celebrating their achievements”. Another quote: In Australia and New Zealand, tall poppy syndrome refers to successful people being criticised. This occurs when their peers believe they are too successful, or are bragging about their success. Intense scrutiny and criticism of such a person is termed as "cutting down the tall poppy". .
