My 29 unfinished has found a new home. A gentleman from GA has purchased it as-is. He has contracted a street rod shop to finish it and enter it in the AMBR contest. This is what I always wanted. A man that can afford it and a shop that has the capability to finish it to flawless perfection. The shop has many awards. I too have 7 Goodguys Southeast Nationals prestige awards with 4 hot rods. My cars are not perfect. I don't have that kind of time. I had not discussed color with them. I was going to paint it a little darker than the Joe Nitti Royal Tritan purple. The frame looks almost black in this picture but it is purple. The photo shopped color is too light. I had an early 50's hot rod in mind when I designed it. 1956 to be exact hence the 1956 Mercury wheel covers PS; I knew if I found a buyer with the $ the Hilborn would be converted to hidden EFI. That's the 1st thing on the agenda. Oops. When they picked up the car. The rod shop owner asked " will a 4 barrel carb fit under the hood?" img504.jpg p1010044_0015_0082.jpg img091 - Copy - Copy.jpg

2023-11-06 08.00.57-1.jpg 2023-11-06 08.00.57-2.jpg The first 2 days it was sold I was really down in the dumps. Sellers remorse. I was willing to buy it back for $5,000.00 more than I sold it for. I did not need the money. Then a very close friend who knows the rod builder convinced me the rod builder could get the job done. I will be campaigning so this will always be the Dennis Frings 29. That is all I want out of this deal. PS; Being a race car builder I used blue-red Aeroquip fittings that I had in stock. I agree they should be changed to black. HAMB police. I beat you to it.

1956 build? Soon the HAMB police will call me on the 1960 Cadillac steering wheel. 2003-12-31 23.00.00-20.jpg 2003-12-31 23.00.00-24.jpg
I sent a PM to RAAF stating I would do the build thread over in the near future.

Kudos on a spectacular build...and, for the sake of the car, letting it go so it can reach it's full potential. That my friend, took real heart.

Hope they build it to your concept without messing it up.

I have seen several of his builds over the years. His attention to detail is off the chart..........

I sold this hot rod as-is but have been contracted to finish the doors. I will get at it next week. I have been busy building flathead engines. 5 in in the last 2 months including two 1/2" SCAT stroker engines. 2022-05-21 09.20.45-3.jpg

I started work on the doors. Installing a 90 degree sheet metal lip to wrap the aluminum door skins around. The front one is very time consuming what with having to shrink both sides. Going to tach weld it every 4 inches and adjust the shim thickness where needed 2022-05-23 22.22.12-3 - Copy.jpg 2022-05-23 22.22.12-4.jpg leaving 1/8" of coach reveal exposed.

THANK YOU. We can only hope. When I did a thread " AMBR potential contender" MANY positive replies. But two faceless critics. One said get rid of the wide tires [ 7.5" ] and the other said use stock W/S posts. Stock with all the hiccups???? Another critic said the car has no chance with the CHEAP tachometer. Well if that is the case with the cheap peep mirrors and the cheapest accelerator pedal we will most likely get stopped at the CA border.

Might just start the build thread this afternoon. Most rods I build I start with an accurate blue print. The 29 I also did a concept drawing using 2022-06-02 17.40.21-1.jpg 2022-06-02 17.40.21-2.jpg a copy machine and a scissors. I like to stress the color picture is NOT an artists rendering. Robert Mc Carter added the doors, hood and color to a photo of the actual car via photo-shop.

I will be doing more build threads in the future. Today the car was picked up by the rod shop and the new owner. I said I would sit low. 6'2" me sitting on 3" foam. Once the car is painted the vertical 29 coach reveal will become much more subtle. Of course you all knew that . 2022-07-27 10.38.40-2.jpg 2022-07-27 10.38.40-3.jpg

The first thing they were going to do was have the Hilborn converted to E F I. But when they picked the car up the rod shop owner asked " Will a 4 barrel carb fit under the hood? " Can't be running out of money already?

I can only hope and pray. The Joe Nitti 1951 32 got a lot of ink for the Royal Triton purple. TV show Counting Cars painted their 50 Chevy ramp truck purple. Coddington painted the infamous Cadzilla purple.

THANK YOU! Glad you noticed. The 3/4 " pie cut section out of the 1/4 panels was extremly important. I did that just above the lower reveal.
