Firecracker to unstick a piston

  1. You're probably right. I have no idea of the details, but it makes sense that they wouldn't fire directly on the piston. But in his case......

  2. Compressed air can be dangerous... too much stored energy that is uncontrollable when it blows. Oil or grease make a mess, but it only takes a little relief of pressure to make them harmless.

  3. That's pretty cool... You'd better not be in a hurry to plow, though. Thanks for posting!

Along with the fire cracker explosion comes heat. That would help in getting it loose. I doubt it would be enough though. I had a friend that worked at a plant that used steam in it's process. He took an occasional stuck engine and ran steam thru them for a couple hours. They generally were loose when he was done.

I think the shotgun shell idea someone posted earlier was viable.

Soo... close to 40 yrs. Ago I worked at a machine shop, J&L performance, Out back on lunch We had 55gl. Drums full of de-ringed pistons an pile's of block's...
One of the other employees had a bag of real m-80's, Behind the shop was field's an about 5-600' were the train track's..
We put a piston in bottomed on the main webbing, dropped a lit m-80, an another piston upside down... Geezuzzz
Cleared the train track's by a lot...
Do not try this at home

I don't see an open can on top of the roller in your avatar. Where'd you hide it when you took the pic? Speaking from personal experience.

This one works better, although the wheel isn't actually square.
