Hey Joey, are those wing nuts 5/16 or 3/8s hard to tell in your hand? Glad to have you back in Cali.....

On the Omaha coupe, is the cutout in the firewall for the stereo? Gotta' have something groovy to listen to!

It was unlike anything I've ever driven before. Just incredible.

Always fun catching up. Looking forward to coming back next year!

    Thank ya!

Rocky, you guys really know how to build them in Omaha. It was amazing getting to see your car at the H.A.M.B. Drags all those years ago. I can't wait to drive my roadster there.

I used to print there a lot during my eBay days. It sure as hell beats finding parking!

That would be so fun. If it happens, you'd have to make the trip down!

I'm trying to imagine how much noise it would make when 25 or so traditional hot rods and choppers fire up inside there. Whew!

Hahahah oooh yeah, it was groovy alright!

Thank you! I have a busy Friday and Saturday and then I’m heading out East again on Saturday night. I don't remember the size off the top of my head, but I'll check.

    A quick update:

It's looking like I'm going to be heading to Petaluma to work on the car this Saturday! David and I have a long list of small things that we plan to accomplish. It's mostly final fab stuff on the chassis and figuring out the shock mounts.

As you can see in my signature, I'd really like to make them out of 1935 Ford pickup spare tire holders. Does anyone have any? Or know of anyone who might? If so, please let me know! These headlights are going to be riding high, a la Joe Nitti roadster.

I've also been doing some shopping. As you read this, my fresh whitewalls from Coker are en route. After a great deal of research, I finally pulled the trigger on my Hudson steering wheel, too. I hope it's as good as the seller claimed it was. It's going to be pretty wild!

Things have been busy with work and travel prep, but I have been driving the car a lot. Right now it has the full hood and full baffles, so it feels like I'm keeping a low profile. IMG_6046.jpg

I wonder if the owner lived here?

I also met the owner of this 1946 GMC. He tackled the restoration himself. It features an inline six and is even nicer in person. When we parted ways, he handed me his card. "Us old car people have to stick together!" he said. I couldn't agree more.

I'll do my best. Make it happen, cap'n! I may stop by to see progress on the roadster tomorrow, too. It would be good to get out for a drive.

I’m on the tarmac in Charlotte, North Carolina, and I should probably be sleeping. It’s the middle of the night in California, but I’m still buzzing from yesterday’s Model A marathon in Petaluma. When I reach my next destination I’ll share some exciting updates.

Roadster update in the works, but I had to make a special stop at the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing while on assignment in Florida.

An untouched survivor Deuce cabriolet from his extensive car collection. Look for a Jalopy Journal feature on this one soon.

A favorite of mine since forever. What could be better than an Allison V12-powered slingshot named the "Pollutionizer." Lots more to share, but I'll save that for later.

I think he’s off galavanting again with those shifty looking hot rodders in Kentucky. Best no photos to incriminate anyone ;)

That's Al Lytle's Allison-powererd drag car (or a replica). It looks like the roll cage is missing. It would be a feature car (if complete) just about anywhere else.

Well...it took me about a month to read all 83 pages amidst renovating our new house, moving and work but by page 83 I feel like Joey and I must be brothers separated at birth. What a cool pair of projects and a cool guy. Keep it up Ukrop, I'm subscribed and looking forward to bumping into you one of these days. Us youngsters need to keep the tradition alive!

Right?! I hope to see him around town in the near future.

I'm thinking that I need to make myself some with a link to this thread.

Great seeing you the other day. Can't wait to get back up there soon.

Thank you! I put it back on there "just because." It's fun to change it up every once in a while.

So after a bunch of measuring, we realized that the spare tire mounts are too tall. Thank you for offering though!
