Edit Nov 7 2022, starting on another LeMons Rally, this one goes from New Orleans, up the Great River Road to St Paul.

    This rally coverage starts here

    --------------------------------------------------------------
the time is here, I'm off on another adventure. Hell on Wheels LeMons Rally in my new 59 Rambler Super. The car is a rust bucket, but I got most of it working...I didn't do anything to the engine or drivetrain, but I did get to fix the cooling, fuel, and brake systems. It sports the 196 OHV six, three on the tree, and torque tube 3.87 rear axle. I gave it new radial tires, and added a working stereo, cruise control, and a tach.

Rally starts in San Luis Obispo, heads over to Sacramento, then up to Alturas, down to Santa Rosa, and back to SLO. If I get that far, I might even stop by Vegas on my way home to visit a friend.

I have a lot of water, and some oil and brake fluid, baling wire, and tools. I think it'll be fine. Or it won't.

I had one of those in '69. It was blue with orange balls, having once belonged to a Union 76 station. My neighbor gave it to me because the right front wheel was hanging out of the well at an extreme angle. After replacing the broken trunnion (at a cost of less than $5) I put many happy miles on it.

Way cool Jim, this will be a lot of fun to follow along.
Did you get flat top haircut with side fenders?
Make sure the "butchwax" is the special die-electric automotive type, good for hair control and other electrical problems !
    Good Luck !

Take a few gallons of coolant or water with you, we’re bouncing off triple digits these days. I work nights but off Thursday-Saturday, pm if in the area and you need something I might have, or could find.
    Have fun!

I made it to chandler, visiting my son. Used a couple quarts of oil to drive 200 miles. Fun. I stopped at Walmart and got a couple more gallons. And some white dress shirts.

Cooling system is doing well by the original temp gage, only got up to half way, 105 out. Cruises nice at 70. The mechanical fuel pump can't keep up at times, so I keep the electric pump switched on most of the time. Glad I have them both.

And I got some rain.. Water comes in through where the floor used to be.

    Jim,
My partner and I bought a 62 Rambler Classic SW. Did some fixing including front disc brakes.
We went on the 2012 Hot Rod Power Tour. 4500 miles, got 24 mpg and used 26 quarts of oil.
    Great fun:)

Little optimistic with the tach redline? Will that worn out engine even spin that fast?

Probably shouldn't "test" that old 196 at that 4500 RPM red line too many times;)

Good luck and have lots of fun:)

When I first looked at the pic, I didn’t see the actual needle, just the one for set point. Then I looked at the speedometer, and thought does he know it’s stuck in “2nd geeeeeaaaaar”?
Heck, maybe he was following a Caddy;)
