  2. Eek! It's been a while since I posted an update, not much progress as I have been helping dad on his Fairlane. Hoping to get back to the roadster in a few weeks. Also just finished replacing the bushes in the rear suspension in the roadster also some new 150lb coilovers.

  5. Been a long while since I updated this. Last month or so I have been finishing the chassis, still some elements I am unsure how I will finish so will come back to these small areas later. Now I am working on the body structure.

Looks pretty sturdy. Spent time today at a small local swap meet. A few hours spent with Ralph and the Marvin Webb roadster. Just down the hill from the insane Hot August Nights kickoff.

Deep Channel...Check...keeping busy, that's good for mind therapy...looking at your Dads Fairlane it looks like rust belt Ontario is alive and well in Australia as well...we have salt on roads in the winter and you have salt in the air and beaches being surrounded in water...any way you cut it rust sucks...but we live with it...

So Jimmy do you sink the floor between the rails?...every inch helps in seating and fitting oneself into a heavily channeled Hotrod...

A break from a build helps reset things sometimes...its looking good...

Interesting bracketry! This is what spurns great engineering...

  14. I haven't touched this build in close to 12 months. My drinking got a little heavy (3 cases) 90 full strength beers a week plus some spirits, turning 40 sucks. Had a large cancer cut out and skin graft on my left hand in December. Spent 5 months going to specialist doctors to gain approval for a cancer treatment for my widespread BCC Basel Cell Carcinoma, I am coming into the forth cycle of daily chemo pill, having good results with a few minor side effects, biggest being loss of taste, fatigue & muscle cramps.
    IMG_9176.jpeg

I recently picked up my 3-port engine that Lynn had stored for me for a number of years, with help from @Stovebolt I was able to import it.
    IMG_9993.jpeg

I have been toying with idea of painting my roadster one colour (not black) and have decided now is the time and a chance to fix up and change a couple of things.
    IMG_9979.jpeg
I have been collecting bits for the '27 T RPU, so far I have straightened the model A rails

Even with your health issues you get more done than I do. I pray you have the cancer on the run. My cousin beat melanoma two years ago. There are a lot better treatments now than just a few years ago. Good you have lots of other things to think about. Things to do beyond recovery.
Is there a color you are thinking about for your roadster? S & G Blue? Or green like the restored version?

  16. Struth Jimmy, take it easy man. AU is the melanoma capital of the world...but we could do without the proof. Best wishes with the recovery and treatment.

Paint it? Mmm. Well, it's not for me to say. Tough call.

Holy shit brother, please slow down! Don't know how many colored photos you have in your impressive archive but bet there are enough for you to get inspired.

Hey man, when I saw your thread pop up I got excited, but I am really glad you were able to share a little of your story,
thanks for checking in here, glad there is some positive in your journey & hang in there!

  19. I need to get back in the swing of things. Great to hear your cousin beat Melanoma. Thankfully I have BCC not Melanoma, not as severe but they are everywhere head, neck, back, arms & legs. The treatments have come on leaps and bounds in the last 5 years, so much better than getting cut up all the time. I am keeping the final colour on the hush but is in the blue range like S/G roadster

Thank you Tony! Thankfully I have no Melanoma (touch wood). I have widespread BCC, had them since I was 18, in the last few years they have been getting worse, cut the worst one out another would flare up, it was like playing surgical whack-a-mole.

With the roadster I had always intended to paint it, for the past 8 months I have been going back and forth whether to or not. Now I am keen for a fresh look maybe even a top, January 2024 the roadster will have been on the road for 5 years

I know:(, but I have always done things in excess. I have a lot of colour slides and photos but it was footage I saw of the Spurgin/Giovanine Chev in 2010 and remnants of the colour on the unrestored car that has influenced the colour choice, it won't be the same but inspired just like my roadster.

Hey mate, sorry no progress but in someways posting here has got me itching to get cracking, I have been so distracted/consumed with my health I haven't stopped to look up and take a breath. I will be posting on the HAMB a lot more o_O people are going to get sick of me :D . I am tired of IG & FB.

Love the two cars and love the 3 port setup with that header and funky homemade intake, sorry if it was mentioned earlier but do you have any history on the engine?

Sorry to hear about the health issues, but glad to see these projects moving forward again. I'm 42, and I realize you and I are probably are on the younger side of members here, but I feel your pain about hitting 40, middle age is a hard pill to swallow. Looking forward to seeing more updates and progress.

I got booted off IG & not sure why, never went back, FB is a tool, not for telling my story, I've been back here regularly for a while now, that won't be changing for the foreseeable future! I don't think anyone here will get sick of you mate! Bring it on I say!
I'm looking forward to seeing your roadster evolve!

I'm 42 also, it's a reminder of the unforfilled plans & dreams, but can be a motivator not a burden. I will say I'm glad I'm not 20 anymore! Hahaha

  23. Thank you! The header I made back in 2007 out of a '25 Chev torque tube, looks right at home on 3-port engine. No history on the engine only that it was a 30s/40s build.
I turned 41 a month back but since turning 40 it's been how did I get here? how am I still here?
We probably are on the younger side, it is good people our age are into Hot Rods. Funny some younger Hot Rodders (20-30) have said to me my build and postings have inspired them which is something I never thought would happen, also made me realise I am no longer a "Youngin" I have some stuff to post that I forgot to post

I remember you posting on FB? about that, weird they boot you off and leave all the scammers. I am definitely looking at using the HAMB like I use to and spending as little time on IG and FB as possible.
I am looking forward to changing up the roadster doing the things I intended to fix once I ironed out the bugs, seat base is so uncomfortable with my muscle and joint issues longer trips are agony. Long term I want to chrome some bits and just make it better.

I am a year younger, 41, unfulfilled plans & dreams is something I have thought about, a lot. I am definitely glad I'm not 20 in this day and age.

  24. Earlier in the year I was looking on ebay and saw Holley was having a sale on Rocket Racing wheels. I have always liked the Rocket "Solids" and with shipping they were much cheaper to buy from the US then to source a set here bit the bullet and purchased 4 16"x5" in early Ford pattern.

Long term I would like to build a SBC powered '25 Chev roadster inspired by Jimmy White's RPU and the Andrade/Carvalho T

A illustration I did about 10 years ago, this version I thought about a Ford Falcon cross-flow 6 (12-port Ford)

So, At 78 I have this observation: You will never stop making new plans & dreams. You will however get fewer of them of them completed. So, You are as close to being caught up as you will ever be. Just keep planning & dreaming and chipping away and posting what you get done. We love it!

  27. Thank you, it is good to be thinking cars again, best therapy.

Thank you for your insights I appreciate it, keep chipping away at your '26 Chev build I look for updates, I may not reply but am watching. I do remember after my first trip to the USA (I was 28) I fulfilled so many of my dreams that the following 6-12 months I was aimless, couldn't workout why, it later dawned on me if you fulfil your dreams you must create new ones.

Jimmy B, I am chipping away on the '26. It just seems to have gotten rolled into a much bigger project involving cleaning & rearranging the shop and clearing out some of the junk (other projects, plans & dreams) and reclaiming work space. That along with all the other work it takes just to live where we do is getting to be a bit much. I have gathered some more neat parts for the roadster and I have gotten my head around some of the assembly challenges. Just have to hack out the space I get back to it. It really helps to see you back making progress. You are not inspiration to just the younger guys. :)

    Cool pump!
