Technical What did you do with your car today? * NEW*

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by j hansen, May 3, 2020.

  1. Replaced the driven gear and housing to better get the speedometer in sync. Bad part is the retainer bolt is tucked up in the X-member, so had to drop trans mount to access it. Re-adjusted the TV cable, and performs much better. This on the 700R4 behind the 351W in my 47 Ford Club Coupe.

I like it both ways, but I think I may like the black walls better, very sinister looking.

I'm really getting into working on my FED....literally! Chassis should have most of the various tabs and brackets in place and have been working on finish welding. I'm doing "mirror" welds (left-right-left-right, and on and on) to keep warping and distortion to a minimum. I did about 50% of the welds with it still clamped to the jig, but finally had to start positioning it to get to more difficult to reach spots. I'd say it's about 90% done now but it's just so hot in my shop I've only been working in it till about noon.

I have been working on the Studebaker. I put the woodgrain steering wheel back on. I put fresh accelerator pumps in the carb and changed the jetting and the power valve. I also ordered a 2 in. spacer from summit and as is what seems to be the new norm it arrived looking like a piece of shit ! I contacted the company that produced and heard back the next day which was great. I sent them a photo of the defects and now three days have passed with no further response from them.
I did go ahead and install it for the time being. I am also in the process of mounting a fuel pressure gauge and sticking with the spend no money theme I had to make my own mount for the gauge. So a piece of exhaust tubing and a clamp and it is almost complete.
Also on the list are some door glasses that work. With that said I have the one track in working order. So I am that much closer to being tra IMG_0571.JPG spacer.png IMG_0564.JPG IMG_0569.JPG ck ready. IMG_0564.JPG IMG_0567.JPG IMG_0566.JPG

Reco'd auto back in car, exhaust is ready to bolt back up. Top up trans, finish shifter install, toe board and floor as well as column, brake pedal and miscellaneous. TV adjustment and road test.
Leaky NOSR recovery tank in 64 is NO longer leaking once it was repaired. Went well on road test with no overheating. :D 295469101_426773306082439_5145248740483043616_n.jpg

I finished mounting the fuel pressure gauge, now I just need a line to hook it up. I put the fuel fill neck and cap in place to fill the hole in the cab. You wouldn't believe how many people would ask if I had that part.
On to the next task which is to get one of these dual points back in service. Then I can replace the stock point dist. I am currently using. But it has not skipped a beat ! IMG_0572.JPG IMG_0574.JPG IMG_0575.JPG IMG_0580.JPG

  19. Now that the Hotrods on the Tarmac is over.....I can drive the shit out of my Coupe. Didn't want to take any chances and miss that show. I typically drive my car everyday, so the funs a comin!!! Now I can get my new Bomber seats and gas tank.

I actually did the first prototypes with c-clamps and I just used a regular old Dake press It didn't need much believe it or not. Wasn't even hydraulic.

I put some of my hard earned cash to work and distributed it to a local hot rod shop in Buda, Texas (Murphos Rods and Customs) for some mods to my 40 cab. Firewall, trans tunnel and floorboards. I am very pleased to say the least. These guy's do some great work. Firewall 1.jpeg Firewall 2.jpeg

I am back to work on the newest revision of the old truck. This year makes 34 years that I have owned it and I have been driving it nearly that long. I am finishing the newest changes to the tilt front end and I am happy with how that is coming together. In the past it slid forward and then tilted. Now it tilts without moving forward. It unlatches by rotating a hidden handle out of the grille opening, then you push down on the handle to tilt the front end assembly. After it is open, the handle can be moved back to the hidden location. Thats the handle sticking out in front of the grille in the photo. 4CF27838-C5BE-48CF-9ADB-95989E7FD289_1_105_c-resized.jpeg

Today I drove it for the first time in months. I punished it some. It was a good day.

Adjusted the mechanical brakes on my roadster using the old school homemade adjuster board three step method. Stops much better now. I don't think the front brakes were engaging at all before.

But most importantly finally got my Alliance tag mounted.
