looks nice and has some tasteful customizing without going overkill. Have fun driving it, get used to lots of questions at any show or gas stops.
I know the 292 engine wasn’t available in the Canadian built 59s https://www.edsel.com/pages/edsel59.htm
That one tastefully done and nice, just make sure all the old rubber is good and maybe check the fuel filters. Then Drive it!!!
Well I can share what I know so far. The previous owner did love the car. He bought it late 80s maybe 1990. The car went to the body shop in1993 where the paint was stripped and new 1/4s , fenders, rockers were installed and the handles were shaved. Not sure when the skirts or antennas were added. Sometime after this the owner moved to the Boston area from Canada taking the car. He was in a car club there but I don't know the name of it. The engine was totally rebuilt and dual exhaust was instaled while there. I don't know when he moved back bringing the car back to Canada. I don't know when the upholstery was done. it has a new gas tank, recored radiator and rebuilt carb. The owner moved back to the States but this time putting the car in storage. Fast forward 5 years, life and covid got in way of geting the car shipped down. The owner felt better to be enjoyed than sitting. After a few long conversations on the phone a deal was made. I assured him I wouldn't change what he had done and that if he wanted it back I would sell it back to him. I won't say what I paid but I will say it was very very reasonable.
That is so cool, thanks for sharing what details you could. I hope you plan on keeping this great car, and getting out there and driving it as much as you can. DON'T be tempted by a big wad of cash offered to you, from some gold chainer that just see's the car as another thing to be acquired, to be kept in a collection and never driven. I looked in the NADA book to see what the prices are on this particular make and model and year of manufacture, so now I have a better understanding of what the final price was. So cool that its now in your care! Thanks from Dennis.
Consider upgrading the Moon discs to something more in the class of the Edsel. Old time 'Bonneville aluminum' is hardly 'Kustom material'... Gorgeous car. Mmmmm.
I am in no way an Edsel guy but this one looks so neat I am going to build an AMT model of it! (If I can find an original build-up I can afford)
The car looks Good! Really good! I agree with Atwater, bolting on fender skirts and changing hubcaps does not make it a Kustom. It seems this website is losing sight of its mission.
No doubt, there is going to be a million different opinions about the current appearance of the car as it was purchased. IMHO, I would just be more focused on making sure all of its systems function safely and properly, and don't sweat the moon disc's or the fender skirts, they are part of what attracted @gtokid70 to the car in the first place. The H.A.M.B. Universe's results may vary ! To steal a line from @anthony myrick , slightly modified, " Id drive it just the way it is "
Well compared to my dirty ranchero (just pulled it out of storage) the edsel is a very very mild custom. I wasn't around in 59 or the early 60s so I didn't see this custom style first hand but looking through my collection of little mags the edsel would have been something that may have been seen cruising the strip. Its lowered, shaved handles, skirts, dual antennas, pleated seats and dash and dual glass packs. As far as the moon disks go, maybe wouldn't be my first choice, but I may try a little pin stripping on them? For now I don't intend on changing much, maybe a little tasteful pin stripping here and there. Its no fancy show machine by any means but it sure does attract attention just the way it is.
I agree the front hubcaps belong in Utah. Chromies, mags, spinners, anything would look better than moon discs, they look cheap and out of place on an otherwise beautiful car.
