I remember a guy telling me that his '65 Impala had the high performance 327 in it "because it's got Corvette valve covers on it".

We ran the numbers on my friend's just acquired A coupe last fall....what do you know, the generic looking late 70s 350 is an L82 Vette engine. I was quite surprised. He didn't mind at all.

Well Gee! You mean that my roadster motor isn't a Corvette. Shucks:rolleyes:
Many years ago I went to look at a supposedly 350 hp 327 . As it turned out ,it was just a bare block and heads. The heads were 300hp heads, but the block had been acid dipped ,new cam bearings and soft plugs and the cylinders were honed all by a local machine shop. I bought it for $100 . Ran the numbers , it was a 66 Corvette 300hp. I didn't want to bury it in some hot rod so I sold it to a guy in a Corvette club. He drove up a 100 miles to get it. He was happy and I made a nice profit.

  11. Back in the day a vette engine was worth the premium you paid for it cause chevy did all the engineering for you. Now 40 years on its just an engine that needs rebuilding. Its easier than ever to build a 400 hp small block. Aluminum heads, and a cam. I leave the rare numbers to the restorers.

  12. And all corvette’s are matching numbers

I have a set of aluminum heads (junk heads) and valve covers from a 1986 corvette, they are to go on a block from a truck. I guess I now have a corvette engine.

  14. I actually had one of the only 327 Chevy engines in existence that didn't come out of a Corvette, I pulled it out of a wrecked '64 Nova. HRP

I got screwed! The 4 bolt main 350 in my '39 is one of the few non Corvette engines ever made! It came out of a GMC van.

I'll settle for one of these regular engines. Don't need no stinkin' Corvette. Scan-220708-0001.jpg

Mine's got a 454 out of a Monte Carlo. Now 40 years later I'd probably rather be driving the Monte.

Well, I have a ‘70 LS5 in my ‘57 PU, I’d have killed myself and others if it was in a Vette. ;)

  24. I bought a 327/365 HP motor complete, with the Corvette aluminum valve covers from my local Chev dealer in '65.......put it in my '61 Impala bubble top.......so, what do you call that?

The 327 I put in my 63 impala 20 years ago came out of a 67 Malibu of course I was told it was a vette engine, I didn't care where it came from at the time it was bored 40 over and was a fresh rebuild, I paid 800 dollars for it. It is still in the car to this day.

The V8 for the 64 Nova model year was a 283 but please tell me that wasn't a 65-67 Chevy II Nova 327 block.

I actually do have a 1956 Corvette 265 in my roadster, but it was maxed out at a whopping 225 hp.
