Projects Where can I find some multi-lug washers that fit these wheels?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 56don, Jul 1, 2022.

  1. I have an old set of Keystone Classic wheels. They are the multi-lug version. Where can I find the oblong style washers that fit these wheels? I see where Summit has the round style but they don't look like they would work. See pic. keysotne wheel.jpg

There's two types; offset washers for 4.5"/5"-on-5 bolt patterns and centered washers for 4.75"-on-5 pattern.

I won't guarantee that they'll fit but should be close. ET was the originator of this design and was quickly copied (with sometimes minor variations) by other manufacturers. Problem was, ET had a patent and promptly sued the copiers to stop (and won) so some 'orphan' wheels may exist. Keystone may have licensed the patent from ET.

I would pop in to your local tire and wheel place. Show them what you need and they may be able to look up and order a set.

If they are a regional or national chain they may have more suppliers to draw from.

Those wheels may very well be made by ET. They made a variation of the Keystone wheel. I seriously doubt any local tire shop would have ever even seen wheels like these because they just don't run into them. These wheels were last made in the late 70s....what 45 years ago? Just go on Ebay and search "ET mag washers" you'll see plenty of vendors. The Lug Nut King sells at the swaps I go to...but I'm in Socal...

  7. Thanks guys, I found them on ebay. I guess my search expertise isn't as good as some of you. ;)

  8. IMO those were an arguably better system than the current slotted hole 'uni-fit' found on Cragars and a few other brands. I've got a set of Cragars and those are a PITA to install compared to the old ETs...

  9. I second the Lug nut king .

got a guy up here at all the swap meets if he dose t have it he can get it .

uni-lug wheels might be common for us hot rodders , but most folks ( tire shops included) don’t have a clue .
Just to dang old and uncommon .

Something to be aware of is the ET brand/style has a conical seat washer and lug, where the other brands have a washer with a flat surface on both sides and takes and mag wheel type lug. That was what made ET different than other brands. The slot for the washer was different between ET and the other brands and they would not interchange. I would say you need a regular mag shank lug , you will have to determine how long . And the a standard washer not a ET style because that wheel does look like a Keystone.'It should be cast in it.

I love ET wheels...one set of wheels will fit all my different lug patterned cars. You'd have to have 3 sets of mags for direct fit wheels. Many guys turn their noses up at them...good! Ill buy every 15" one I run across.

ET made wheels like those like I said...if you look at the OPs pic of his wheel washer slot and my ET mags pictured...youll see they are the same. Here's an ad from 1976...look on the lower left.

I went into the back shelves of my local Napa, and dug through all the lug nut boxes and found the lug nuts and washers I needed for my E/T Unilugs, but that has been well over a year now. Some part stores still carry them, they can order them. If you find an old mom and pop part store or speed shop, they generally have them as well.

  15. These are Keystone brand. Name is cast into the back and they are dated to the mid 80s. Thanks for the replies, I just ordered some. Don't need the nuts, I still have them, but I sold off the washers years ago not thinking I would need them. I hate it when I do that......o_O

As cool as those wheels are, once you have to change a flat tire in bad weather, heavy rain, blowing snow... keeping track of those washers and the lug nuts will make you swear off every buying them again.

Not so, I wouldn’t have mentioned it based on smoke in the air. There is a local tire/wheel shop and I have talked to the guy and and from what he told me , he has a connection to be able to get some vintage wheels accessories. I wouldn’t think a small chain store who be blowing smoke up the wazoo . We were talking about sets of vintage wheels I have and getting the proper lugs for them. That’s why I made the suggestion.

And you cannot base that stuff made decades ago , that all the stock is just “”poof gone . Some manufacturers may have 86 various stock but some parts are still floating around. Just like Salem Speed Shop had vintage hemi Chrysler, Dodge camshaft grinds still in boxes on the shelf. And people still are selling NOS items , true .? Quick example I have out in the shop 50 sets of NOS McCord and Fel Pro engine gasket sets that go back older than 1932. Heck , I think there are sets for Hudson’s and 1938 Pontiac’s . Another example DFCA67C0-6F38-4B36-B7B2-3BF1535A44F4.jpeg 6C7F844C-E890-41EA-B33F-F348E33304F0.jpeg 6C7F844C-E890-41EA-B33F-F348E33304F0.jpeg these haven’t been made in decades either. Not huffing and puffing , just stating facts as I know it. Your mileage may very. Yes , I am a hoarder:)

As a side note , I need to go out and peruse those gasket sets again. But if I remember correctly the last time I looked through them one or two sets go back to 1915/1919.

My local tire and wheel store just down the street carries these washers in stock. And not only centered and offset, but also machined for shank style lugnuts, or conical lugnuts! When I had trouble with my ET slots staying tight with shank style he sold me a set of 10 conicals, plus lugnuts, and they've never come loose since then.

Lovely Tire and Wheel in Portland on 82nd Ave. I wouldn't take my bicycle to Les Scwab, and doubt they'd have these washers.

You should have better luck finding them if you call them uni-lug washers.
