While waiting on parts for my transmission swap I noticed that my old transmission had a seal on the rear of the transmission. And my new used one does not. I've also seen where there is a sealed bearing but cannot find that part number can anybody help me out?. I'm going to pull the seal off of the old trans and see if I can find a part number
Well what I thought was a seal with part numbers is actually part of the housing. So perhaps I have a early and late tail shaft housing. Seems that the one that came off the car is there to block the oil from running out. I guess I'll clean this one up at the shop tomorrow and swap it to the other one
If you are using an original type bearing, (no seals) then you need a "transmission main shaft baffle" in front of the bearing. If you want a sealed bearing, that would be part number 10320. Both part numbers are from Bratton's Model A, 800-255-1929, www.brattons.com. The main shaft baffle PN is 10350.
The number that I thought I saw on the seal was actually the cast in number on the rear bearing retainer. I do have a main shaft oil baffle but a sealed bearing sounds good too. I'm wondering if I can cross reference any of these numbers to a parts store one that I can get today if not it's going to get it as is
I just got the open ball bearing from the parts store and it's correct. I also have a sealed one coming in about 2:00. If that one's correct also ID and OD then I'll peel the seal off the inside part and keep the seal on the outside.
Well the one that showed up later in the day was incorrect so I installed the regular stock open type ball bearing one and the retainer with the baffling.
