  1. Every time I see this shot of Tommy Ivo's tow car and dragster, I think of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band song "Joe Knows How To Live" !!!

    Gene Bergs 61 beetle with Giant Killer on roof (weighed less than 500 lbs) ! Took modified engine out of car, and ran it in dragster, then put it back and drove home !

    @DDDenny,
    You win my undying admiration!
    That was true dedication, swapping motors to race and drive to and from track.

    All are great but you have to love the Studebaker racers hauled with Studebaker trucks, well at least I do. :rolleyes:

    Holy shit... I missed that... and yes, you are right. Nothing more rad than point blank track announcements while taking the Browns to the Super Bowl.

    In the Army in '64, we went to a dirt track outside Junction City, Kansas. You had to keep a lane open out in the corn fields for the competitors to drive from town (I guess) to the track.

    My hauler, converted '92 Spartan Pumper. Flatbed is hydraulic so it ramps down to drive/winch car into, then raise it back flat. P1080839.JPG

    I know my eyes are getting worse by the day, but I don't see the Dodge Marty.

    It's the front truck, I have seen it in other pictures. BTW, Hershel was offered a ride from Carl, but turned it down, to stay home, run the sawmill and raise his family, and return to racing in 1968.

    Always thought it was a little weird that the guy who owned(?) Mercury raced Chryslers -- pretty successfully, too.
