Projects Two things make a car: Wheels and stance.

  1. I never did update this thread on my 39. Here ya go. Dropped it about 1.5 inches in the rear and 1 inch in the front. I wanted to go lower in the front but the tires rubbed. IMG_2758.jpg IMG_2757 (1).jpg

I see the hood sides and the hair pin mounts have changed along with the polished 5 spokes. Have Don put the 5 spokes on, it just sets the “timeless tone!!!!!!!”

    Stance and Wheels?
My goal was an " average Joe" mild custom '36 that you might see at an Autorama in the early/mid 60s... customized with lots of detail, chrome and accessories...but not taken too far.

I didn't want a leadsled or tail dragger (they were a little before my time) but more of a hot rod from the mid 60s car shows I loved. They had that "California Rake"...big & little tires, caps and rings, a dropped axle and a "heavier than stock" engine weighing the nose down.

    Hello,

This orange/red Model A coupe has all of the classic 50’s-60s styling cues for an original hot rod from the early heydays. For those that like the big/little aspect of tires, it has a good proportion in both. (by the way, the coupe was waiting its turn for getting some work done as far as tires, balancing or alignment. It was located in one of the oldest wheel and tire place going all the way back to the early 60s.

We probably stopped at this place for tire service in one of our many road trips down/up the coast on our 1960-70 surf adventures. It is near the “Surf Ghetto” area of a coastal beach community. Despite other businesses closing, this store has weathered the onslaught and has stayed as a cornerstone of what the city has to offer.

What is not to like about original American Racing Equipment 5 spoke wheels? Since becoming standards in the drag racing world when they first came out, they were finally offered in street performance upgrade models. These 5 spokes have been the standard of the hot rod world for hot rods, drag race cars and cruisers galore.

The stance? A fine example of a hot rod straight out of a photojournalist playbook from the 60s-70s time period. All with a great looking faded flames highlight and no bulky 32 Ford grille to mess things up. YRMV

Cool hot rods still exist in coastal So Cal, hopefully we will get another shot of it near the ocean and shoreline...

Agree, wheels & stance but, I would add color to that. "Wheels, stance, and color"

And horsepower. In fact that should be first.

  20. Before and after. Best change I ever made, although lowering it was more expensive and involved than stuff I've done before. Trying to lower a straight axle Fridge while still using a straight axle (and not ending up with bump-steer or bits hitting each other) is nothing like cranking back the torsion bars on my old mini-truck, or hacking up coil springs. Ahhh... the good old days. They were a lot cheaper. :(

Just about $700 all total for three inches! Thats $230 per inch.

I wish I could get paid by the "inch"... I could use the $700. :p:D:D

    Tucked bumpers also help.

  24. I may have all ready posted my two 32s here so I apologize if I have …. the truck is unfinished as yet so the suspension has not settled but the stance should be fairly close …. all you guys really have the stance thing dialed in. Benissimo! Oops, sorry - I am in Italy right now ! Lol! A0C43B78-207D-4292-A5D1-AA3843737F99.jpeg

Stock stance but the 15” torque thrust wheels totally changed my 63 Sprint. Kept the 13” 5 lugs and spinner caps of course. Not much of a mag wheel guy but you can’t go wrong for a 60s car. Price and looks!

Had to delete your pictures as your last pic in the group was Billet Wheels. Edit your ad and repost your first two pics.

  27. Forgot about this thread. Although the wheels stayed the same, we did paint them and change the wheel covers. We also lowered the car some. Those two things made all the difference in the world to me on a car that many might not even look at twice before.
