Good picture Mark. Sadly I do not have any pictures of my father with his cars although he worked on them all his life.

I never really thought of my dad as a car guy, but he did indulge my neophyte gearhead ambitions. He let me take over our single-stall garage for my first car build while the family car sat outside. And he always had pretty cool taste in cars. He bought this '64 Comet Caliente convertible from a local used car dealer as a "second car". It was 289 powered, bright red with a white top and interior. Gorgeous car. Check the tach mounted on the dash! Not a bad ride for a middle-aged high school science teacher.
One of the finest things about our relationship, as I matured, was that we made the step from "father and son" to "friends" via our many other shared interests. He had a huge hand in developing those and for that, I'm forever grateful.

  9. Here is my dad standing by his 59 Thunderbird with his Ranchero in the background as well. Also, his dad (my grandpa) is in the background with my aunt.

Awesome photos guys, thanks for sharing. I wish I had photos of my dad with cars, but I don't think I have any. I could probably dig up one with him on a tractor, or a team of draft horses though.

And that's exactly why they moved to AZ! My mom used to say, when she saw images of winter weather in the mid west, it was a nice place to be ..... from. ;)

My dad at the door and his brother standing by the coupe. La Grande OR, my folks lived in La Grande for a while before moving on to Seattle. Long before I was born the 3 window was destroyed when a horse and rider came barreling out of an alley as dad was coming down the street. Heard the story many times, horse didn't make it, rider flew over the top of the car and ended up "busted all to hell" in the street. The fish, my dad lived for fishing, I got pretty burned out on it as a kid.

My sister is sitting on a stash of pictures that we never divided up. I know there is one with Pops and I in our Sunday best next to his '62 Galaxie that later became my 1st car. Have a few here of me and Pops' '57 Custom but he was out to sea on a destroyer @ the time. In the meantime, here's Gramps & his Touring T he picked up when he got home from Europe in '18. He was the gearhead in the family-

Cool pic  I've never seen a factory tach in a Caliente in my life. It was standard option in the Cyclone model.

My dad with the old Cody Parr car, "The Apache". We pulled this car out of a backyard with trees growing up through the trailer and chassis. Probably around 1987 or so.

Here's a picture of my dad, my younger brother and I about twenty years ago. Picture 109.jpg
He and I actually rebuilt this A about ten years after this picture. This is my first Father's Day without him and I sure miss him. Like a lot of the others he's why I got into cars. Luckily we got to build a lot of stuff together.

  23. Man,,,,I love old pics like this !

I don’t have any of Daddy with any cars he had,,,,,he was always working on heavy equipment,,,or dump trucks,,,or road tractors .
Back then we really didn’t take many pictures,,,,,,of things like that at least .
But,,,he’s still around,,,,,93 and still working every day on something .

There are many excellent pics,,,,,but my favorite is the pic of roothawgs dad holding that birthday cake.
Look at his face,,,,,that feeling of pride in his sons birthday !
That’s a good feeling,,,,,that’s how I feel about my dad,,,,,,and how I feel about my son as well .
Thanks everyone for posting these,,,,,Happy Fathers Day everyone.

    Tommy

Yeah, I don't doubt that the tach was probably added by a previous owner as the car was 5 years old when he bought it. If I remember right it had dual exhaust too which probably wasn't factory.

Sugar, our shepherd, my sister Pam, my Dad Harry, me, the '41 Pontiac (our first family car) and the chicken yard behind our house in the background. How many Pontiac Torpedoes do you know featured a spotlight? Dad overhauled the engine on his next car, a '52 Henry J, which impressed my Mom and me so much that I was hooked on cars the rest of my life.

Condolences on your dad's passing. As an influence on your being a car guy, I'd say that he did a pretty good job!

No pictures, my dad really isn't a car guy. But he did "borrow" his older brother's 1962 Chevrolet Biscayne with a 409 and go street racing with it. Everything went well as he tells it. Till the drivers side motor mount ripped loose and he had to call his dad to come get him and a tow truck for the car.

3F039968-7B63-41D7-8128-3F7049BBC563.jpeg I asked my dad about this and he said that the bottle had grape juice in it. Not sure I believe him. And he said something about an apple and a tree falling. He definitely was my inspiration for cars and made me who I am today. Just wish he still had that car.
