Well .... I'm going to sound like a broken-record .... but, Congratulations on scoring an original Hot Rod, every ones dream.

Question: since it had a Chevy in it, way would you not put one back in it?

  16. Thank you! The truck had a Flathead and a 283, we are debating on which direction to go in

It's a no brainer if you really want to drive the snot out of it, highway speeds, reliability, cost, spin the tires.....
I blew up the Flathead in my 40 Ford just driving down the highway at 50 mph in 1972 ... we didn't even think twice about trying to fix it or go get another one, within a few weeks, I had Hurst mounts and a 283 2bbl in it and it ran circles around that flathead, never over heated and was perfectly reliable.

  22. I am a dealer for Flathead Speed parts so that’s my debate, tricked out Flathead or a early SBC dressed to look the part built in the 60s. My 31 roadster is flathead powered and fun to drive then I just built a Tudor with a flathead/T5 combo that was good on the highway

  25. What do you think these taillights are from? These where put on the truck in 57 so doubtful it was aftermarket

Those tail lights look bigger than 50 Pontiac like 1952 Maybe. They are a little thicker than the 50 units

Flatty vs 283 is an interesting debate. My 2 cents, you may be a flathead speedparts dealer but the pickup didnt have those. You dont HAVE TO build it as it was but isnt that the point here? If it was mine and its not! Id go 283 and try to make it exactly as it was in its last period form. I love flatheads and itd be bitchin with one but a hotrod as cool as that with that 60s alien should have that 60s engine with all the same parts it had at that time....cool build, have been subbed to the youtube for a long time now, love that channel!
