There has to be more places than on the steering column to mount your tack. Lets see where you put your tack.

It's in the barn, with the horses.
Seriously, I mount my tachs at eye level on the top of the dash so I can keep an eye on things - the rpm and the road.

While I don't have a picture of it in my 55 Chevy I mounted the tach near the A pillar and drivers side sun-visor. I never missed a shift light & didn't have to take my eyes off the road.

Had mine up on the column when I was running the F1 steering but had to move it down under the dash on the left when I changed out the whole steering setup. No room on the column afterwards.

Race car, old race car, not a race car.

I mounted my Sun Super Tach on the column support. I can see it perfectly while driving. That is good because I can't see the speedo without leaning down and to the right. Consequently, I figure my speed via that tach. IMG_1544.JPG

  16. This solves "enough space" problems... Another reason I named her "The Judge".. Picture taken right after painting the hood.... tape on edge to avoid chipping while putting the hood back on.... reflection of old sheet covering my "paint booth".. ahahha..

    Fremont drags, 1963:
A large number of SS Pontiacs were running there, and it seemed like EVERY ONE of them had the tach mounted at the top of the A pillar, to the left of the pilot's head.
You could mark the Pontiacs: they ALL seemed to do it. (pretty cool, actually...the road was always visible, as was your opponent.) IF he was on your left.

On the steering column. Why mess with tradition.

  23. I glued a tack on the end of my shoe so I could kick my classmates in the ass, just like a bee sting !

I do have the tach mounted on top of the dash per say so I can see it and use it.

I do have one that im not serious about hitting shift points mounted on the column though.

when you like to drive fast you put it on top of the dash. I like the redline pointed straight up. it has been a long time since I drove fast, last car I put a tach in I had it under the dash near the drivers door.

now I use my tach to try to stay under 2000 RPM to save gas:(

Good thing this isn't a ratrod site otherwise it would be duct taped to the steering column.

@LAROKE knows. Those clock pods from 51/52 Chevys are perfect for mounting gauges.

  27. I built a panel and hung it under the dash in my 53 Chevy.

I can glance down at it quickly.

In the racecar I mounted the tach and other gauges up high to the right so I can glance at them quickly on the straights and get a good look to them in the corners, dirt car turning to the right/looking to the right in the corners

Only a dummy tach, I don't think the 261 would last long oner 5,500.
