Dr Simeon’s Museum has been on my list for years, it is a foundation so it will be around for a long time. RIP. Dr. Simeon.
No, but he shared our love of old race cars: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/simeone-auto-museum-philly.1262553/
He had some nice investments. I saw them several years back. First learned of him from American Pickers. When Mike was in Italy he came upon a cutaway demo of the workings of a Fiat drivetrain and chassis. Danielle ( his P R organizer, sales rep, and scout ) sourced the sale of said machine to Dr Simeone. Learning of the museum I talked the Mrs into a tour. Cool race cars from many Eras.
First thing the world needs to know is that as a neurologist, he saved lives and made life better for tens of thousands. I knew him, he was a really nice guy, we just never got around to seeing his collection. Being at Le Mans, owning a Le Mans winner, I guess he was on his way to his final reward. Thoughts and prayers going out to his family and friends. He will be remembered by all that meet him. Rest in peace. Bob
R.I.P. - His collection was outstanding, and I’ve always appreciated that he made it public. Even so far as pulling a few cars out on a Saturday regularly and running them around the parking lot and giving rides. If you have not been, the museum is a must see for any car guy.
Sorry to mislead. I was told today he was NOT at Le Mans. The email I got alluded to him being there but he was not.
Every time I saw a film clip about him and his museum, I was wishing that I could meet him someday. R.I.P Dr Simeone…God Speed…
You can read this pretty amazing obituary here: https://mailchi.mp/simeonemuseum/thelossofdrfredsimeone?e=3d2646c306
An amazing collection and museum, especially the way the cars are displayed in dioramas. My son and I attended a fundraiser for Autism Speaks there a few years back with Wayne Carini of Chasing Classic Cars, we got to the museum about an half an hour early, the curator gave us a private tour explaining the story behind each car, it was an incredible experience
HUGE loss to the historic racing community, and yes- on of the world's leading neurosurgeons before he retired! Any word on what will happen with the museum? For those who haven't been there, it's a fantastic collection of racing and sports cars from the teens (Underslung, Mercer, etc) to the present, but even more impressive are the extensive/famous pedigrees that most, if not all have
