  4. Wonder if the spelling is Humpy or Humpie o_O . Pretty sure that is the Pirotta Ford powered 289 V8 FX.
Heres two more traditional images that need no explanation.

    Hello,

From experience, as easy and handy that lever is for opening and lifting the hood of the 1940 Fords of all kinds, caution is mandatory.

I was getting our 327 powered 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery ready for its outing to our family gathering one holiday. I was working on getting some stuff changed over and hoses checked, and a new set of plugs for some good running experiences for our 100 mile round trip for a family event. It was hot and I had a fan blowing while I was working.

Much to my dismay, one thing led to another and the little jobs turned into longer hours prior to our departure after lunch. It was not a pleasant 1 hour job. It turned into all morning, into the afternoon. So, I closed the hood and took a lunch/nap break. After the break, I resumed finishing the final things to get it completely ready for our long trip.

I grabbed the chrome hood lever and as usual, I pulled it open. I started to raise the hood, not thinking about much after a nice nap. A little cloudy, but coming awake was a shaky thing as the chrome handle broke in my hand and the hood slammed back down. Now, the cloudy feeling of just awakening from a nap was instantly wide awake and heart pounding.

The lever broke and the hood shut itself in place. I was left holding the remaining lever with a dumfounded look on my face. It was two hours to departure and now what? A little wire tie down for the hood safety and a pair of vise grips still allowed access to the motor compartment. Everything else still worked.

Luckily, the place (parent’s house) we were driving to was in the same neighborhood as the early Ford Parts Obsolete Store. The unique store was located several blocks from our Westside of Long Beach house on Caspian Avenue. You could not miss it as coming over the Willow Street bridge or off of the Long Beach freeway, the old car on the roof of the store stuck out like crazy.

We did not have to wait for the LB Veteran’s Stadium Auto Parts Swap Meet for a NOS part. This Ford Parts Obsolete Store had it in stock. YES!!!

    A big Amen to that!

  29. That looks like it's Crosley powered. That's cool. I wonder what it ran in the 1/4?
