I recently acquired another bucket list vehicle, a 1939 two-door sedan. It's alleged to be a former Minnesota State Patrol vehicle but I'm not positive. She's in need of some serious love as it hasn't been on the road since 1960. The body is dent-free with the exception of a small-ish ding on the hood. It did come with a new floor so I will cut the original out and replace. The interior needs full replacement. The engine will be coming out for a full rebuild as well. The goal is a reliable daily-type driver, nothing too wild.
@jjsound Hey! I didn't know you were on the HAMB! Let me know if you need any parts for that flathead. Us '39 sedan guys gotta stick together.
HAMBers, here's the progress. I wish I was on here more like I was in the 2000s... Anyway, body is off, frame is blasted, new floor and rockers are in, rust repair has started. Do any of you know of reproduction frame rails? Lots to repair otherwise. Either way it's going to happen. Upholstery shop has a deposit and Jack figured the engine would be completed around this time so I'm sure we're close. Ok, back to work!
Tonight I put the frame on the hoist. I’ll just chip away at the rot little by little. I learned that the car was originally 90hp, that’s kind of exciting.
Nice work so far. Do you just have the body balanced on the engine hoist? I’m working on a 40 Tudor right and hopefully the body goes back on the frame this weekend
I used that engine hoist to remove the body from the frame. It was immediately mounted on a body rotisserie. I have since acquired a two post hoist, and will be using that for re-assembly. Let’s see that ‘40!
Well that will be fun... This would be a good time to do a little mini tub for some extra wheel clearance.
Gotcha I see a 2 post would make the job easier. This is my 40 before I pulled it apart. I have a build thread on it https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/a-1940-tudor-for-the-family.1307647/
I see you have a roadster as well. My other car is a ‘29 roadster. How random. “30s Fords” are the best!
Joe's Antique has all the stuff you need to fix your kick-ups. https://www.joesantiqueauto.com/frame-repair-components?specs=32
That's good that those pieces are available. Many moons go, I picked up the original pieces that a fellow had taken off to back-half a 37 coupe, and I used that to repair the frame sections on my 38 Deluxe sedan.
