Hot Rods I.D. rear end?

    I just got a 47 Ford convert and I want to I.D. the rear end. It's 5 X 4.5 with necked down ends. Thanks in advance P1050979.JPG P1050981.JPG P1050982.JPG

    Looks like an 8-inch to me.
     
  3. Pretty sure it's a 9", the necked-down axle tubes were usually found under the '66-71 Ford intermediates with a 351 or 390 motor and use the smaller axle bearings like the 8". The fill plug makes it an early one. These are bit flimsy as Ford housings go, don't attach a housing-mount sway bar to one as they'll bend. AMHIK....

    take a picture of the front of the thing, the middle part, and we'll know for sure.

    Here's the I.D. tag WCE Z 280 5JE 930. I haven't had any luck with the letter code but it seems like it a 2.80 gear
