I’ll throw a guess out there, those guys are small town fire fighters on the East coast and they are competing in some sort of drill based on time and efficiency. Hopefully someone can fill us in on the details, I think this was a New York state thing.

Snore! A relative had one of the first ones for his business. I recall being shocked at what a slug it was to drive. He replaced it with a 62 F85 with the 215V8.
My wife tells a story of how she complained that her boyfriend was being fussy about the white tuck & roll in his '55Chev. He retaliated by always picking her up in his mother's Metropolitan which she hated! A great response
Indeed this is a haunting photo. I have seen it a few times and always wondered what happened to this little fellow and his companion. Hope they lived a great life.
